Rural broadband 1MB!

This is the best BT offer and no plans on updating - they own exchange fully and paying is not an option

Satellite has poor reviews

Found 4G mobile broadband but most limited to 50 to 100 GB a month and we use 350GB but unlimited seems unavailable for dongle or mobile wi fi

Any ideas or suggestions?

With only the slightest sympathy for BT (or indeed any copper cable service) the technology (ADSL) of internet over ordinary copper wire simply doesn't work over about 5 miles from an exchange.
It works pretty well for about 1.5 miles then gradually lessens then gives up completely. OK mansplaining over. Yes agree it's shit!
At about 2Km from an exchange I get about 2.2 MB/s most days but sometimes up to 3.7 MB/s That's French Telecom.

If you want satellite don't use too way as it is massively overloaded. We are now on avanti which is much better. Satellite is really expensive though, but our landline is really slow and we have no other option.

Thanks all

Moving to this place 😂 far too many perks not to over broadband

Lots of ideas, thank you

I live in a place which is a byword for remoteness. No proper broadband available, satellite is expensive and glitchy, government-sponsored scheme (like a county-sized wireless network) is hideous and unreliable, but EE 4G is very good indeed.

Because I have a phone contract with them, I get 200GB for £54 a month. Obviously this is hugely more than I'd pay if fibreoptic was available but it's a decent saving on £60pm. I don't understand much about speeds, but I did a test yesterday and got 100 Mb/s which seems fine.

Hmm interesting

4G seems the way to go

We cant get broadband, acutally we could but it would be snal like, but thankfully we have a 4g mast nearby. Both have mobiles with good data package plus a vodafone 50gb sim ina router. We dont watch netflix etc anymore, kids are allowed ipads at weekends only and limited time on youtube etc use personal hotspot from phones if house data runs out.
Had satellite, was awful and slow, weather affected it too!!
Fibre to premises is on the way here... so im told... just waiting until i can restart my netflix addiction!!!

Ithinkthatsenough · 21/06/2018 23:31

Ps complain complain complain!!
Contact your mp get them involved!! Bt openreach are beyond shite with their customer service and getting back to you with answers to queries. Give them a hard time!!

Ihatehouseselling · 21/06/2018 23:53

Hmm they say the materials and distance just cannot cope

What could the MP do to change that?

We have 0.5 on a good day, next to zero if it rains or is windy. So we have tooway satellite, it is ok but very expensive data. The best bit is the unlimited data at night to download things. We’ve just been looking at switching to EE 4g as we are miles from the exchange.

Never expected to get fibre... only a handful of houses this far out. Suddenly they’ve put in fibre cables and today the box was being put in next door! Still about half a mile away but hoping this will solve our problems. So don’t lose hope!
