to be worried

I started a new job only a few months ago. But I don't feel confident in it, I am a shy person and this involves a lot of presentations (not mentioned on the job description) and there's a lot of micromanagement I don't like.

I had a bad day last week. I made a mistake and someone made a big deal out of it. That night I saw a job I could do for more money and sent my CV off without really thinking. I was then offered an interview. I was thinking I should go just to see what it's like, but am I playing with fire?

I'm in an awkward position - if I go to the interview will they tell my employer? I know they shouldn't, but it's local so there's a chance they could know someone at my current job. And if my current job finds out they could sack me as I'm in probation. I may not even like the other job after interview.

SO what I'm asking is, do I have anything to lose by going to the interview, or am I risking losing my current job for something I may not even want?

It would be a serious data protection breach if anything about your interview got back to the current employer so I don’t think you should worry about that. There’s always a chance that someone’s indiscreet I suppose but it really really shouldn’t happen - and businesses should be hyper alert to data protection issues immediately post-GDPR.

So on that basis I’d say go for it and good luck!

I don't think they could sack you for going for an interview.

Of course you should go to the interview. You would be crazy if you didn't. You're unhappy at your current job and I seriously doubt it will get better. You have an opportunity to move on and I suggest you take it.
