Disabled toilet

Went for a meal today and needed the loo.

Women's toilets were out of order and a sign on the door saying to use the disabled facilities.

There was a lady in the disabled toilet so i queued, then behind me came a woman in a wheelchair and 2 more ladies that joined from reading the sign on the ladies door.

I asked the woman in the wheelchair if she wanted to queue ahead of me. She insisted that she didnt want to go in front and that she was using the wheelchair following minor leg surgery and was fine to wait her turn. I checked she was sure that this was ok and she said yes.

Lady comes out, i go in, pee, wash hands, come out and hold the door open for the next lady to go in.

As she shut the door the 2 women who were queing behind me cornered me and told me I was really selfish and "absolutely disgusting" for using the toilet before a person in a wheelchair. They heard me ask the woman but said I should have insisted and that I was a "creature".

I left and brushed it off, but since coming home its played on my mind a lot.. should i have really insisted or was my offer enough? Hmmm.

Weirdos
You’re fine OP

pudcat · 18/06/2018 19:45

You did nothing wrong. The Ladies was out of order, the lady in the wheelchair said she was fine. I suppose you could have used the Gents but that wouldn't go down well with some in here

Glumglowworm · 18/06/2018 19:45

Ignore them, you offered the woman in a wheelchair the chance to go in front of you, and only used the disabled because the ladies was closed. Some people are just professionally offended, ywnbu

YANBU. How dare they question/comment many people have hidden disabilities that may not be apparent. Disabled loos are not just for people in wheelchairs, by the sound of things you were very considerate and had no other option available.

IGiorni · 18/06/2018 19:56

You did nothing wrong. It was courteous of you to offer, she had no medical need to go first. Those women were being awful.

Thanks for the replies. Think I just needed a little reassurance
