Turned up at a friends house to be told they'd just had asbestos removed. Used a company and was done using all the proper procedures and air clearance done. They are happy with it and relieved asbestos has now gone from their home.

I however am feeling really worried about the fact that my children walked through where it was done, sat down on the floor there to take shoes off (all before I realised). I feel so sick with worry that they've been put at risk if any fibres were missed in the clean up process.

Trying to gauge how others would feel in this situation. Thanks

They will be fine. It’s long-term exposure that’s the problem, a few one-off fibres (if in fact the professionals were incompetent) do not cause mesothelioma.

If you read more about it, that might help to put your mind at rest.

No your not being unreasonable. It's natural to worry. But it sounds like they have had it removed properly, if it was so bad I'm sure they wouldnt have been staying in the property.
Also asbestos is still in a lot of houses/buildings that were built during a certain time period.
Also i think (but cant be entirely sure) you would have to injest a major amount/over a long period for it to cause damage.
Stay calm. Try not to worry.

I really wish I'd known beforehand 😔

I wouldn't think about it at all.

Are you normally overly anxious?

StressHeadEek · 18/06/2018 08:21

I am about asbestos particularly yes @PatriciaHolm

Our Guide Hut has lots of asbestos in it, but it's fine to use. We just need to be careful if we do any maintenance.
We have it properly checked every year.
