Roster only given 3 days in advance

I work shift work in a large company with many departments. We get a roster a month in advance however I've recently had to change departments temporarily due to pregnancy as my current role is unsuitable for pregnant women. In the new department we only find out what hours we are working the following week on the Friday before. This is making childcare arrangements a disaster for me as I cannot plan anything and feel I'm giving my childminder very short notice. I don't want to go in all demanding as there's no need but how do I approach this sensibly without being "that one" who thinks she should get special treatment cos I've kids. I only work 3 days during the week plus the weekend which is fine as oh is home but I never know what 3 days I'm working as there is no pattern it all depends on what staff are in and if anyone has any special requests for days off.

Cant you tell them the days that you CAN work and explain because you have children , you wont be to work any different shifts because of childcare restriction?

I thought companies had to provide family friendly hours

Are you in Australia? I don’t know the rules there. Three days notice seems pretty inadequate.

I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for either more notice or fixed days.

Alternatively is there someone you could sort of job share with so between the two of you, you can cover a full week?
