Claustrophobic in a tent

Anyone else?? I've been camping loads but not for a while. DH decided we should camp in the tent tonight with our child and I had to get out as felt really claustrophobic. (I'm not normally worried about small spaces but did freak out a few weeks ago when I followed my 5 year old down a tunnel and nearly got stuck, felt like I was in a coffin!

I got claustrophobic in a static caravan years ago. The boys shared a room which was tiny, literally like two coffin beds and a tiny bedside table between. Sad Our 'double' room was literally the size of the bed with about six inches all round.

I have never done camping but I do like a window. Grin

Yes my claustrophobia crept up on me 10 years ago. A 2 man tent is hell and i had to sleep with my head sticking out.
It was a sign more was going on underneath and i ended up having a meltdown one year later.
I was locked in a cupboard as a child. It came back to haunt me 40 years later.

I don't get claustrophobic in our tent, but do get a bit freaked out when zipped into my sleeping bag. I usually end up having to open it up shortly after going to bed. To be fair though, our tent is a big walk-in one - I haven't had to kip in a wee 2-person crawl-in for years... I don't think I would like that any more

This is a 4 person tent (which really is a 3 person) but is all bed and no floor space. I can't stand up in it. Don't think it helped that I was right next to the tent wall.

That happened me. I had to open the vent thing and settle a bit before I could go to sleep.. the joys of camping lol

Get a huge tent like this one. Problem solved.

You could host a wedding in ours.

I have a recurring nightmare about a tent exactly like that. I'm hiding in it and the camping shop is full of zombies. And then I have to unzip it silently to try to escape...

I get this and have done since I was a kid. I remember having to stick my head out of the end of the tent to sleep when I was a guide! Funnily enough it was playing on my mind last night as we are going camping in the summer. We have a tent we can stand up in and that certainly helps. I can’t use sleeping bags for the same reason. I have to have a duvet.

THANK YOU for posting this. I used to think I was a lone crazy woman! I can't breathe in a tent when the zips are closed. I've camped since I was a teenager but in the last 10 years it's got worse. There was no particular trigger, although I had a panic attack during a scuba lesson...

We got rid of the tent and bought a motorhome, and I have to have the skylight blind open, along with the window by the bed. DH thinks I'm nuts.
