Rude for waiter to clear plates straight away?

I’m talking about literally as soon as you put your fork down after your last bite? It wasn’t busy in the place but felt like he wanted us to leave asap

My friend had also spilt a little bit of milk on the table and as he grabbed her plate she wipped it up with a tissue. He rolled his eyes and said we do clean the tables you know.

That does sound rude. Here they typically ask you if you're finished before they take your plate.

Clearing the plates, maybe as it wasn't busy he was finding himself work to do and didn't want you sat there with empty plates while he was standing around doing nothing (boss might tell him off?)

Comment about wiping the table sounds rude though.

Why bother even giving this a second of thought?

ReservoirDogs · 16/06/2018 16:15

Wow lots of people are being rude to you today Grin

KatieKittens · 16/06/2018 16:36

I would say that taking plates away without asking customers if they have finished is down to a lack of training in hospitality. Was this an upmarket place?

I agree with previous posters that rolling eyes is rude. Hey ho, it’s not the end of the world. Maybe it’s not the career he always dreamed of. Maybe he was having a bad day.

As a side note:
I’ve never actually seen anyone rolling their eyes in real life, only on tv when teenagers are characterised!

It gets reported as happening to people on mumsnet fairly frequently. Do people really roll their eyes at each otherHmm or do I live a sheltered life?

Op was this before or after your breast op check up with the rude nurse? Busy day you have had.

My boss makes me clear tables ASAP when she's there. I don't like doing it because I don't want customer to feel rushed but she moans at us if we don't Hmm And half the time when she's doing it to get a table to pay up and leave they don't get the hint anyway. So it might come across as rude but he might not have a say in it.
