To bring my own cake?

I'm taking my DC and 5 friends to the cinema tomorrow and going to a chain restaurant (think Pizza Express) afterwards. WIBU to bring my own cake to blow out the candles etc? I have made the specific cake my DC asked for so wouldn't want a generic restaurant one even if they did do it. We will be paying for food for a group of kids and a few adults, so it's not like we are trying to be cheap, we just want to use our own cake for blowing out the candles and singing happy birthday. Or am I being rude and presumptuous, and should instead stand outside the restaurant for the candle blowing-out?

Why don't you just phone and ask them?

It seems infinitely easier than starting a thread.

I would think it was completely normal to bring your own cake.

I’ve done this at Pizza Express before - they were absolutely fine and even took it away and cut and served it for us. I called ahead to let them know. They didn’t charge - just leave a nice tip.

Check with them but it's usually fine. We've done this in pubs and they normally offer plates and a knife.

We always take Birthday cakes to restaurants, but we always ring and ask beforehand.

Usually fine just call and ask
So that way they can have somewhere to put it for you etc.

Mountainsoutofmolehills · 15/06/2018 15:05

call them. it's fine. I've managed restaurants where same has happened. We were delighted to share their event :)

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 15/06/2018 15:06

We did this at Pizza Hut, they brought it out, sang along and cut cake!

Slitherout · 15/06/2018 15:07

Another one saying call and ask, we did that at pizza hut and they put it on a nice tray, scattered about a hundredweight of chocolate chips all round it and put candles on for us.

Stephisaur · 15/06/2018 15:12

We usually take our own cake to Pizza Express. They've always been very pleasant about it and pop it in the kitchen while we eat, then bring it out when we're ready.

BottleOfJameson · 15/06/2018 15:24

Just ask them. Some restaurants don't mind.

mostimproved · 15/06/2018 15:24

@Bettyfood starting a thread online is a lot easier than phoning up while I am at work!!

OK the consensus seems to be that I should call them, guess I will have to pick up the phone and ask!

Call and ask but I’ve never know a restaurant to say no. Thing is if your are a reasonable size group which most people with cakes will be they are making a fair bit of money anyway so what is someone blowing out candles
