To think I haven't give notice? Help!

N/C purely so my other posts are not linked. Firstly I have awful anxiety so please don't jump on me.

So I was talking to the letting agent about an issue last week relating to another tenant and told them while chatting that the issues had confirmed in my mind that I wanted to move and find somewhere else. I didn't say I wanted to give notice. Just that I was looking elsewhere.

A day later I asked them by email about a property they had and whether it would take certain situations.

According to my tenancy agreement notice has to be given as one month's notice on the day the rent is next due.

In an email about one of the properties I asked about the agent has asked if I still want to vacate the property and move and now I am panicking they have started the notice period!

I've emailed them of course as you can't use the office if you are letting property rather than buying.

I have given nothing in writing to say I want to start the notice period so legally if I can't find anywhere can they evict me? Help!

the agent has asked if I still want to vacate

You’ve answered your own question. They just want certainty, clearly they don’t think you have given notice or they wouldn’t have asked.

Just email back and say ‘not for now thanks, I’ll give notice in writing as per the tenancy if I would like to vacate’.

What was the full conversation? How did they respond to you saying that you had confirmed you want to move?

If you're not sure how they interpreted it, then you need to ask. No one here can answer that for you.

As far as I am aware notice has to be given in writing. At least thats what has been said in all the rental contracts I have had. Sounds like a typical incompetant agent if you ask me. Just email and say 'I haven't given notice, so no I wont be moving out on such and such a date'

'I haven't given notice, so no I wont be moving out on such and such a date'

There has been no mention of a leaving date.

Remind us who the incompetent one is?

I haven't mentioned a leaving date although notice is pretty straight forward as in a month from the date of your next rent so they would have a date if that makes sense.

I just said that we had been thinking of moving anyway but this issue had confirmed it and agent repeated that 'it's clarified your mind now'

That's what I wondered if it had to be done in writing.
I think it's me just panicking!
