To think my DH needs this looked at? (Pics)

I've posted this in heath too - but for traffic I'm posting it here also.

My husband rolled his ankle yesterday and said the pain was so bad he threw up.

This alone rang alarm bells to me.

He woke today and it's bruised and swollen around the ankle joint. He says he can't take time off to go to get it X-rayed - and thinks his work boots are going to "hold it together"

AIBU to think he is being ridiculous? I think it needs seeing too!!!!!!

I'm a nurse. It needs to be seen imo.

liz70 · 14/06/2018 07:49

Nobody can tell just by looking at a photo if it's fractured or not. Do you have a Minor Injuries Unit nearby? They are usually walk in and open till around 9 p.m. He should get himself to one if possible. You usually get seen within a few minutes.

ShatnersWig · 14/06/2018 07:52

Anyone whose pain is so bad they throw up but can't take time off work to get it X-rayed is a twat, quite frankly.

MrsMozart · 14/06/2018 07:52

I'd suggest an xray.

The work boots are going to put awful pressure on that spot.

I broke the end of my fibula tripping down a two inch step. Thought just twanged it. Went to hospital a couple of days later. Airboot (as can't have plaster) for nine weeks - should've been six but I overdid it and made the break worse.

MrsMozart · 14/06/2018 07:53

As an aside - because I didn't take care of it, it took a year to walk properly again.

Tell him to get it xrayed.

PurpleWithRed · 14/06/2018 07:55

Can he walk on it? I’d say it needs looking at too but if he can’t weightbear then he won’t be able to work anyway.

3boys3dogshelp · 14/06/2018 07:57

Yep I fractured my fibula, didn’t get it stayed for 3 days because I didn’t think I’d done anything bad enough to break it. 4 months on and what should have been a simple repair is still causing me a lot of problems. I can’t walk far and can’t run at all. Please don’t let him be an idiot like me.

TillyTheTiger · 14/06/2018 07:57

I second the minor injuries unit suggestion - in my experience they're loads quicker than A&E. I've been four times (3 separate broken fingers and one concussion, all sport-related) and was seen within 20-30 minutes every time!

JoyTheUnicorn · 14/06/2018 08:01

A friend of mine hurt her foot and carried on, despite massive pain, she eventually got it looked at, and it had been a simple break, but because she'd carried on this were complicated, she needed an operation, total recovery time ended up being nearly a year.
Checking straight away would likely to have ended in quicker recovery.
Tell him he's not a hero if he soldiers on. He needs to get it checked this morning.

LakieLady · 14/06/2018 08:04

Definitely go to minor injuries, if he hasn't already. That looks bloody painful, and not like a sprain.

Thank you to those who answered with helpful comments - xxx

He is being ridiculous, you're right!

And I'd be cross of he listens to all of us rather than his own wife too!

And if he can't afford to take the time off for an X-ray why I'm god's name did he not go last night?

If it were my DH I'd tell him he was a twat and let him get on with whatever he thinks is best, but not to come looking for sympathy!

Flowers For you.
