Need help for response for racist FB post

A FB "friend" has posted a golliwog photo giving the see how far we can share this. Never been racist before, but this is awful, you don't post that shite without knowing it's totally wrong and out of order.

Should I just delete him? I really feel I need to bloody well show my distain and I don't care what mutual friends see it, they can delete me if they feel I'm out of order ( don't think they will, as my friends re generally good people). I'm shocked they've done this.

I did start a response saying

Seriously? You do know how massively racist this is don't you, how could you post this?

So do I post, or just delete.

I'd say delete and choose your "friends" more carefully in future.
None of my fb friends post anything I don't like, because I wouldn't entertain them as friends in the first place.

I'd reply something along the lines "I thought better of you than this"and then delete him. Don't enter into a debate. Don't keep looking to see how many other people 'like' your post. Just delete and remove him from your life.

I usually comment something like ‘this is racist crap and I thought you were kinder/more intelligent (delete as appropriate ) than to share/post stuff like this’.

I have had a few "friends" post similar recently. I just unfriend. I cba to explain my actions. Anyone who, happily, spouts racist crap isn't worthy of an explanation - They wouldn't accept it anyway 🤷

I'd just delete him without comment.

zzzzz, of course you can't agree with everything somebody posts, but racism, well my fb friends just wouldn't do that.
It's basically friends and family on my fb, who I know very well.

If you friend lots of people you don't know very well, it's to be expected.

I agree I shouldn't get into a public row, but I am shocked that he has done this. I'm not interested in how many likes I get, but I do want him to know why I'll ignore him next time I see him!

I think its important when we see racism/discrimination we call me people up on it. Silence and ignoring it is not acceptable anymore.

I would just comment and say ‘hey, I’m not sure if you’re aware of this (gosh I really hope not) but the gollywog has long been recognised as a racist caricature of black people’ and share a link to a website page about it. Give him chance publicly to either say ‘omg I had no idea I had one as a kid that’s all’ and delete it. If he doubles down or ignores it I’d just delete.

I’d comment along the lines of “I thought you were better than this” then block and delete. The only possible explanation (other the being a racist obvs) I’ve seen people post homophobic stuff then, then a day later post saying they wanted the opportunity to delete anyone that liked it. But I spend way to much time on tumblr.

Anyone like that just gets deleted. You can't reason with people like him. He knows what he's doing. Just block the fucker.

Ask why? If literally says nothing other than asking people to share to see how far it goes ask him why he wants it shared, there's not a lot he could reply without making himself look like a twat or showing himself up as ignorant as fuck.

I'm far from a confrontational type but would personally say something as I find this in poor taste. I don't think there's ever an excuse for racism. Of course in challenging an attitude like this you will rarely get a reaction you want but it wouldn't sit right with me not attempting to challenge this. Deleting or hiding posts of course avoids drama but in my mind makes you a little complicit in the behaviour making racism or other inequalities appear overall more acceptable.
