To describe my new photography style as...

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 16:52

"Story Telling Photography".

I want to stay away from #makingmemories etc. I want to do things like organise photography tours, children's and lifestyle photography, I do do environments / landscapes / architecture and fetish photography...

So I need something that involves it all, but I am not sure if that phrase would work.

Probably wouldn’t mention the fetish stuff and the children’s stuff on the same site...

Dinosaursandtea Grin agreed!

CoperCabana · 12/06/2018 16:58

Can you make up a term for it. Not this as not good but ‘Life Layer’ photography or something as it will make you stand out from the crowd?

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 16:59

@dinosaursandtea Apologies, fetish photography only goes onto a fetish website - it's completely separate. I have "my website" and then a page on a fetish website.

"Probably wouldn’t mention the fetish stuff and the children’s stuff on the same site..."

Very good advice. I'd pay heed, OP.

Didiusfalco · 12/06/2018 17:00

Do you have to give it a wanky label? Can’t you just call it ‘Toucan Photography’ and then subtitle it as specialising in landscape/architecture/fetish. Which to be honest, speaking as someone who is quite involved in photography sounds like an odd combination - some people will also be put off by the fetish part. I would pick something to concentrate on - not all of it.

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 17:00

So the business name is TheToucanPhotography - but then I need a tag line that says the style, and the some blurb that I can post on facebook etc that says I what I do and doesn't really cut anything out. Someone suggested Lifestyle, and others have suggested Making Memories... I don't really like the second and lifestyle doesn't really capture it all.

Phew! I’d mention the other stuff - the architecture, landscapes and lifestyle stuff, etc - on your fetish page though. Sounds like you have a range that might bring something different to the table than most fetish photographers.

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 17:01

@Didiusfalco I make just as much money out of the landscapes as I do family portraits... And I don't really want to have separate websites for each, but thanks, and yeah, maybe I don't need a wanky subtitle.

OP posts:
CoperCabana · 12/06/2018 17:03

Could you your tag line be something like

Creating a life collage

Or a life tapestry

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 17:03

Fetish page - fetish community, alternative, some business ones at the moment

My page - everything else. It's split into categories at the top so I don't make people wade through shite they are not interested in.

I know I have people look at both - and I have done corporate headshots for a man who had originally asked for a fetish session. So I should probably think about that as well. Thank you.

Check out some branding websites like Ashley Ambirge - might give you some ideas!

Mishappening · 12/06/2018 17:05

Here's a tagline.....from children to fetishes!.......

That should draw them in! - but I am a bit worried about who the they might be.

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 17:07

@dinosaursandtea Thank you - that looks great and there's a free course at the moment!

@Mishappening - worried about the people with children or the people who have fetishes?

Didiusfalco · 12/06/2018 17:09

Sorry - I didn’t mean to be rude. It’s just unusual to find someone equally good at portraits and landscapes.

Maybe brand your photography tours as something separate to the rest of your business to make it more enticing. If I were you I would separate this out from the work you do - maybe ‘photojourneys’ or something for the tours - though I’m sure you can think of a better term.

oxcat1 · 12/06/2018 17:11

Picturing life?

TheToucan · 12/06/2018 17:26

@Didiusfalco I didn't read it as being rude (sorry, Im not feeling very well if my response came across as grumpy).

Good point with the phototours - I want them to be bespoke so maybe for now i will leave those out until the entire package / course is developed. Im feeling pretty overwhelmed with it all already as I have just started doing it full time and I already have fifty sessions booked in for non-fetish things and than a forty hour fetish shoot. Literally don't even have my website public yet and know it wont always be like this (thankfully in many ways).
