To panic about bathroom bins (or lack of)?

Always wondered this if at someone's house and notice they don't have a bathroom bin. What the fuck are you supposed to do with your used period paraphernalia if on the blob? Take it home with you? Make a little parcel and attempt to smuggle it into to another bin? Try to force it down the bog?!?
Why don't people just have a bathroom bin...? What do you do if you don't have one (and are a menstruating female)??

I can't understand why people don't have bathroom and toilet bins, especially when they have guests.

Get a pack of nappy bags and always carry at least a few with your period items.Then yes, smuggle the mess in another bin. I am sure many people just chuck everything down the toilets when there are no bins! It's rather stupid not to have one when you have people around.

My old friend advised to always have a pack of tissues handy so you can wrap a pad/tampon in tissue and then wrap the whole thing in the tissue packet. Then pop in bag or pocket and bin when you can. Guess you could just wrap it in toilet paper as well. It’s not very pleasant but does the job I suppose.

if im just doing a short visit, say 2-4 hours, i make sure i sort myself before going if i know no bins in the bathroom.

if i know no bins in bathroom where i'm staying, i make a little bin out by double lining a bin liner and taking stuff out of bathroom and then nip back in to wash hands again - paranoid.

if i'm going to a new person's house for a short 2 or so hour vist, i make sure i'm sorted beforehand.

I’ve never understood people not having a bathroom bin either, but I can guarantee this thread will bring up the people who think they are absolutely disgusting and would never have one. May be or may be not the same people who think carpets are really unhygienic. I am not placemarking.. absolutely not!

I am a proud bathroom/toilet bin owner, but I do think carpets are gross in general, and terminally disgusting in said bathrooms or toilets

Another vote here for the nappy sack. Always keep a couple in my handbag. Wrap anything in there, then dispose of when I get home.

Please never ever flush sanitary items down the loo. This leads to pipes getting blocked etc. Also, I am not on mains drainage at home, septic tank, and items other than wee, poop or paper cause havoc!

I have nappy bags in my handbag/pocket. Care worker and I go to lots of houses without bins!

I buy the Fab Little Bags from Amazon. They are more expensive than nappy sacks but can be sealed and are opaque so are a bit more discreet - particularly on the occasions when I've had to put it in my bag until I can find a bin.

I don't have a bathroom bin. Always just taken rubbish straight to kitchen bin.
It would always end up being me that emptied the bloody thing so I just don't bother.
I may reconsider once DD's reach puberty.

I don't get this either, OP. I once had the holiday from hell, staying with work colleagues of my DH. They live overseas and kindly offered to host us while we were holidaying in their country. I happened to be on what must be the heaviest period of my life there, and guess what...no bathroom bin! We were using their kids' bathroom...probably the parents' ensuite bathroom had a bin, but I didn't feel I knew them well enough to ask to use it. Along with my fear of leaking onto their sheets, it really spoilt the holiday for me. I just didn't feel comfortable there at all.

I'm sorry but I'm not carrying my bloody tampons or sanny towels around with me until I get home, however well wrapped!
Trills: not always a choice to not go to someone's house. My in laws don't have a bathroom bin & their kitchen bin is teeny. They'd totally see my period parcel if I put it in there.
Actually, fuck it, it is a choice. I'm going to avoid going to theirs when am on in the future. Why face the stress!
To a pp who suggested "sorting self" before visiting, not always an option if on particularly heavily.

Most houses seem to have a bathroom bin, with a lid and lined with plastic/rubbish bag. No one needs to touch or see anything, everything stays clean and hygienic, no one gets embarrassed, how difficult can it be.

The ones who don't should follow the fashion!

I've don't use my bathroom bin, I use a moon cup so don't need it. I've got the bin there guests though.

We moved in and I never bothered to get a bin and don’t miss it. Just change wrap my pad in tissue and the tuck inside the wrapper of the new one then put it in the kitchen bin and re-wash hands at the sink. It doesn’t bother me and if we had a bin upstairs we’d just forget to empty it. We are all grown ups so what if someone knows you have your period as a woman of pre-menopausal age it’s perfectly normal.

Ew wrap it up and put it in the main bin. I dont have a bathroom bin because i dont want to be throwing away other peoples tampons from it. And never put them down the loo.

Just wrap it and put it in the main bin or outside bin. Ours is by the back door idk where other peoples are. Theres nothing embarrassing about it. I personally use reusable pads so keep them in a wet bag i carry with me in full sight of anyone.

I wouldn’t leave period products in someone else’s bin. I’m uptight though and periods have never been directly discussed or talked about in my upbringing. Weird. I’ve got boys but they already know about them

I have a bathroom bin but I don't use it.
DD ( teenager) is the only one that uses it for period stuff.
I take my own rubbish and put it in the kitchen bin.

I could happily live without a bathroom bin.

This is one of those topics on MN like loo brushes. Some people are weirdly appalled by anyone putting anything in their bathroom bin or by having one at all because they personally don't need it. Stuff the guests.

I have one so that guests don't need to worry. It has a liner and I don't inspect the contents, just knot the bag and thow away in the big bin.
