Phonics check week

My DD has her phonics check test today. Does anyone know what the pass rate is? There are 40 words in total. How many do they need to get right to pass?

I believe it's 32. My DD is also having her phonics check this week, I don't think she'll pass due to her speech delay but I'm not very worried about it. If she doesn't pass it means she'll get extra support in year 2 which I feel she needs regardless.

I'm just hoping she won't be told if she hasn't passed, she'll be really disappointed.

It’s usually 36. I don’t know if it still is this year but it’s been 36 for a few years now.

ApocalypseNowt · 11/06/2018 10:11

Is this for yr1? Haven't heard anything about it at DD1's school!

Singlebutmarried · 11/06/2018 10:11

Dd last year got 33 and that was a pass.

Chapman31 · 11/06/2018 10:12

I meant 32! Not 36!! Sorry!

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 11/06/2018 10:12

We won’t know what the pass threshold is until after they’ve taken the tests.

It’s been 32 in recent years.

Morphene · 11/06/2018 10:13

why do you want to know? What possible difference can it make?

DearMrDilkington · 11/06/2018 10:13

nowt yes year 1 and any year 2 children who didn't pass last year. I'm surprised you haven't heard about it, dds school have been talking about it since the start of year 1. I think every school have to do it.

Gizlotsmum · 11/06/2018 10:14

Pretty sure my son will fail... but it really won’t matter in the future..just short term ( and they will know as they will have extra work next year)

ApocalypseNowt · 11/06/2018 10:15

I'm pretty organised with school stuff so don't think I've missed any communications. I'll ask the teacher at pick up!

ApocalypseNowt · 11/06/2018 10:37

Apparently it is this week! No communication that I've missed but some dc who were struggling were given stuff to practice over half term. They're doing it informally so dc won't know its a test.

I'd be lost without the parents WhatsApp group!

Don't worry it's all very low key. It's just some one to one time with the teacher where the child reads 40 words to evidence their phonic deciding skills.

The "pass" mark isn't released by the government until after the assessment window closes. Last year's was 32 like previous checks.

Perpetualstateofchaos · 11/06/2018 19:45

Passmark for the pass few years has been 32. D'S school expects it to be the same this year but it is not announced til tests are completed and sent off.

foxyloxy78 · 11/06/2018 20:51

Great. Thanks everyone. Good to hear it will be low key. Fingers crossed!
