Had a bit of a debate with a friend who was shocked when I suggested the DM had an underlying current and history of racism. He said "the DM is NOT racist".

What do others think?

Trying to find the link to the Tweets from a design temp who worked at DM and saw Paul Dacre rush in screaming 'Cunt! Cunt!' at a designer because they had used a stock image with some black people in it....

Also there's an account in the book Flat Earth News about how a DM reporter was sent out to cover the murder of a suburban family, then got a call half way there not to bother, because they were black.

It’s not sexist or homophobic either and it certainly doesnt hate women
(May be sarcastic)

They are getting a new editor at the end of the year who is a remainer apparently - which did surprise me a bit. James o brien mentioned it on LBC the other day.
I only go on to the website to have a look from time to time, mostly its celeb gossip or Trump or the Royals, but the actual paper i have never bought at all and most of it on line is just features, or diets and things.

Ghanagirl · 11/06/2018 09:47

In my opinion it definitely is!

commonarewe · 11/06/2018 09:49

It's no more or less racist than its mirror image the Guardian, in which the term "White" is employed on a sliding scale from "mildly pejorative" to "outright slur".

NotACleverName · 11/06/2018 09:50

Your friend is an idiot.

SluttyButty · 11/06/2018 10:03

What Hopping said.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/06/2018 10:07

Toxic rag that feeds peoples prejudices.

user1486062886 · 11/06/2018 10:12

GhostofFrankGrimes I think the only people that read it, are the people that want to be shocked and angry at the paper, how else do people know what is in there, the circulation and views online would plummet if the people that find mail offensive stop reading or looking at the online version

Jarstastic · 11/06/2018 10:17

Well..they were the only ones who bothered to ensure Stephen Lawrence’s killers were brought to justice. (the boss had SL’s dad in his house as a decorator).

I read it a bit, it’s the only way I’d know for example the kardashians are. I wouldn’t say I’ve noticed adverse racism. Issu
It’s like a paper aimed at women written by women who don’t respect women.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 11/06/2018 10:19

I think people who read the DM are generally angry. Angry about the things they are told to be angry about. The same people who call radio phone ins to complain about immigration, the EU etc. It feeds a vicious circle and has the PM dancing to its tune.

sproodlemummy · 11/06/2018 10:19

It is without a shadow of a doubt racist, stokes peoples ignorance, fears and prejudices against immigrants and non white people.

The only positive thing I can say about them is the campaign regarding Stephen Lawrence, however I believe that the only reason they did this is that Neville Lawrence was the editors decorator.

It will be interesting to see what the new editor will bring..................

BlueBug45 · 11/06/2018 10:22

@sproodlemummy the new editor is from the Mail On Sunday so you can read his work now (if you want to).

Anyway I need to have my 10 minutes of daily hate I better log on to the DM.

FindoGask · 11/06/2018 10:23

He said "the DM is NOT racist".

Lol. Well, that's that then. Case closed.
