9yo still has back pain

DD had a bad fall from a swing over a week ago. She landed hard on her back, did a 360 and ended up sitting with legs straight out to the front screaming. At first she was totally winded and couldn't catch her breath. We calmed her, gave her pain killers and decided to watch and wait. In the last week I've only had to give her painkillers three times but she says it's still hurting her and she can't run at all. But she walked 7k yesterday happily chatting but every time I asked her about her back she said it aches but not enough for pain killers but it would really hurt her if she ran. I've seen her at school refusing to play tag because of her back. Do I now need to get her back seen to? Surely it shouldn't still be causing her not to run?

I would probably stop asking her about it because doing that will remind her! She will soon let you know if it’s a problem.

Does she normally like running?

If your concerned give your GP a call tomorrow and ask for advice. Don’t forget though bruising can be pretty painful.

Maybe it's just bruised? It might take a while to heal.

Sirzy yes normally she's really active running all over the place but now even a slow jog causes her pain and she won't do it. And yes I'm probably asking about her back far too often but I suppose I'm just feeling guilty for not getting someone to check her out straight away.

get her seen.

her not doing her usual activities due to pain a week after the accident is quite worrying.

It sounds as if if just going to take a bit longer. If she was able to walk that far and isn't generally in pain it doesn't sound to serious, but running can be pretty jarring and things like tag that involve sudden stopping and turning are going to hurt for a bit!

Get her seen. Sometimes back problems are just seen as muscular but can be something more serious.

bluerunningshoes · 10/06/2018 08:46

at that age after a fall like that I would expect her to be up and running again after 3/4 days.

Thanks for your replies. I am worried that it's still hurting after this long. I can see opinion is divided and I don't want to waste people's time but I'm going to bob her along to the walk in this morning I think. And if they tell me it's just bruised and she should just rest it then all good and I can relax and stop asking her about it!
