Can any frequent flyers out there help me - I'm flying with Ryan air and can only bring handluggage - I use solid shampoo, conditioner, soap and deodorant from lush - can I bring these (they are kept within individual tin Containers ) - can I bring a disposable razor?

I ask as last week two individual friends were flying - separately and one was allowed razors lush stuff etc and the other wasnt! - can anyone help? Tia

I think you need to look at the airport rules, not the airline, they are the ones who check bags. Can you tweet them maybe?

Razors are ok if the blades are cartridge style or fixed in place, but not removable actual blades.

The lush product, depends if it is a paste or actual solid. A bar of soap or equivalent is fine. But anything more malleable/pastelike is subject to the liquid restrictions. So needs to be within the volume guidelines and packed in a plastic transparent bag etc.

It isn't the airline that allows or disallows things being carried but the airport security people. Solids should be fine and the worst that will happen with disposable razors are they are confiscated and you'll have to rebuy them on the other side (either at the airport shop or on arrival at your destination).

The hard soap etc. are fine, but the metal tins may be an issue as they cannot be scanned - might be ok if they can be opened

PavlovianLunge · 09/06/2018 16:01

If they’re completely solid, you should be fine, the restrictions are for liquids and gels. And a safety razor should also be fine.

I’ve never tried it, but the RyanAir website has a Live Chat option - it’s probably easiest to ask there if you’re still concerned.

RockNRollNerd · 09/06/2018 16:02

Solid shampoo and conditioner from lush have been fine every time I’ve gone through security with them.

PavlovianLunge · 09/06/2018 16:03

My sunglasses have a cylindrical metal case, they have never been flagged up when going through security.

malmi · 09/06/2018 16:04

It's nothing to do with Ryanair so no point asking them really. If the product is less than 100g you're fine. Pack it in the transparent bag. If it's more then you needed to check it's definitely solid.

Thank so much - I'm flying from dublin - as we're my 2 friends - just odd that they weren't allowed the same items -

Sounds like the lush stuff may be borderline solid/paste. So at the discretion of the security officer. Or wasn't packed in the plastic bag and no room to fit it in, so had to be surrendered. The razors, not sure, unless it was a removable blade.

Hillarious · 11/06/2018 20:08

Buy your toiletries once you've gone through security at the airport.

dementedma · 11/06/2018 20:13

razors won't be allowed. solid shampoo bars should be. Just buy some miniatures or keep some freebie hotel ones to use when only taking hand luggage. Buy stuff at your destination if you need to.

malmi · 11/06/2018 20:36

Disposable razors are allowed.

Full list is here: www.gov.uk/hand-luggage-restrictions/personal-items

make sure anything like that is under 100mml and packed in your clear ziploc bag, and that your ziploc bag fits in your hand luggage. Job done. Oh and don't pack scissors.

borlottibeans · 11/06/2018 20:45

Those little tubs Lush do are under 100ml capacity so if you can take stuff in those you should be ok. My husband uses their beard stuff which is arguably a liquid, but had no issues flying last time we went away as they don't care what it is when it's under 100ml. Pretty sure I took a disposable razor on that trip too.

I flew with Ryanair hand luggage only a few weeks ago. As it was my first time travelling with only hand luggage I researched quite thoroughly the baggage size and what I was or wasn't allowed to take (I'm like that). My understanding is that anything solid can just be dropped into bags, but anything cream/balm or liquid needs to go in the clear bag.

In my toilet bag I took stick deodorant, a disposable razor, solid perfume, face wipes. In my plastic bag went moisturiser, shower gel, mini shampoo and conditioner and the like.

I didn't have any problems either way.
