Watching tv feeding baby

I'm coming to the end of maternity leave, my baby is 11 months old. She eats quite a lot 3 times a day. I tend to feed her some meals in the living room while watching t.v. ( my stuff not cartoons), as she takes so long and obviously needs to be supervised in case of choking. Otherwise I'd never get to see anything! Am I the only one who does this, is it really bad 😶?

I don't think there is much wrong with that. As long as you are interacting with your baby (and the TV isn't proving a distraction for them while eating). I have a lounge diner, so didn't have much of an option. Hardly parenting crime of the century. I will say make the most of it, won't be long until you are pestered to put on what they want to watch!

Are you looking forward to going back to work?

gingerbreadbiscuits · 06/06/2018 17:41

Do you not eat with her?

PinkSuitcases · 06/06/2018 17:42

We have open plan so if the tvs on then she can see it from her high chair in the 'kitchen'. For breakfast we normally have bbc news, probably nothing at lunch but then always tend to have background tv or radio on for snacks and tea. I don't see an issue with it. I'm engaging with her and as soon as she starts nursery next month she'll have no tv time all day. Plus tv is a part of life, it's hardly the devil.

Sounds a bit depressing, but not worth losing sleep over.

Thesearmsofmine · 06/06/2018 17:51

It isn’t something I do because I think it is a bad habit to get in to plus we all eat at the same time. Daytime tv is rubbish anyway so I tend not to have it on.

BuntyII · 06/06/2018 17:57

No we eat in the kitchen but sometimes I will get on with washing dishes etc while he eats. He does watch cartoons sometimes when we are in the living room. No one interacts with their baby every minute of their waking life.

SIL and BIL always check the news on their phones whilst DN eats, and I find it depressing that its not at all sociable.

Lindah1 · 06/06/2018 20:24

I won't lose sleep over it so! I do eat with her while watching t.v. too 😮. Not daytime tv agree that's rubbish, stuff I've recorded. It will be all change when she goes to nursery! Work- not dreading it but not exactly looking forward to it either !!

I spent all day interacting with my DS at this age. The only time he was happy to sit quietly was when he had a bowl of food in front of him, so yes often at mealtimes we’d sit in the living room, he’d eat his food and I’d get 10 minutes to myself to have a brew and watch some telly. Nothing wrong with it IMO.

Tv is on here all day. They can watch it or not whatever they want.

However it is age appropriate
