Ex smokers! Can you help??

So i do all the right things, loads of exercise, fruit and veg, water by the gallons, and have done for years.

But my skin and especially my hair is completely sucked dry, I mean beyond repair, no products make any difference.

Im beginning to think it might be the fags.

Can any ex smokers tell me what changes they saw in their hair and skin and how soon? Could this be the problem?

When I smoked, I washed my hair everyday as I was paranoid about the smell. My hairdresser complained all the time that I was drying it out.
My skin def was better when I stopped. My DH continued to smoke and I could smell smoke on his face, not just his breath. It sticks like a mask.

I meant to say that my skin looked clearer. I don't think it was necessarily more hydrated.

Smoking saps all the nutrients from your body. Vitamin C is especially drained and necessary for good skin. It also puckers the skin round your mouth and causes deep lines.

Definitely worth stopping x

Lots of good things will happen to your body when you stop smoking! This is what the NHS say.

Two observation of my own: dh’s younger sister who has smoked for 20+ years looks a good 10 years older than him.

One of ds’ teenage friends this week was convinced that I was younger than a mutual friend. Friend smokes and is over 20 years younger than me! Shock
Disclaimer: teenagers might not be the best at estimating ages.

My former husband went from grey looking skin to pink within a couple of weeks. The change was incredible.
Sadly, he stopped the habit too late to help his insides - the damage was done and he died at 61.

I think my skin is better but I can't say I've noticed any significant changes re:skin and hair.

I did quit when I got pregnant and have had a sicky pregnancy so far so that might be why?

For your dry hair get a blonde hair dye and just use the conditioner that comes with it - bin the dye.

I’m 3 days free from smoking and I feel much better but my skin is having a tantrum! It probably doesn’t know what has hit it!
