Yes, he should go home or just in the general opposite direction as his 'friend' and his GF.

The way I see arguments with strangers is this:

Are you in physical danger? Get to safety and/or call the police.

Are you NOT in physical danger? Then just go away/do something else.

If they follow you then get to safety and/or call the police.

If there’s a risk of violence then you call law enforcement. Not your boyfriend and his friend. This isn’t Grease 2.

I'd find it absolutely hilarious if someone called DH asking him to buoy up the muscle for a fight. I can't imagine it has ever happened to him, not even when he was a youth.
