To think I might have the flu?

Posting here for traffic as I'm getting no response in chat.

I'm roasting but shivery, with a temp. My sinuses feel completely blocked, my glands are so swollen that swallowing is agony, I've not been able to drink anything yet today because the pain is excruciating. My ear is sore too. If I stand up, I feel like I'm going to pass out. DH is at work today and I'm at home with 2 year old who I have confined to the living room with me and a box of her favourite toys.

Obviously I'm physically able to write this message so that may be an indicator that it's not the flu. But I feel absolutely dreadful.

I've got my sisters hen do this weekend. My first night away from youngest DD(2) and first night away from other DD(5) since she was 1. Timing is just typical.

Just trying to get an idea of when I'll start the improve.

Thanks all.

proper cold symptoms usually last 2-5 days; snot and cough can persist for a few weeks after.

Whatever you have you sound very unwell. You may improve for the weekend, nobody could say.

Flu can be a serious illness, often confines a person to bed but it's tired old nonsense to say that nobody with flu, like ever could do anything if it's really flu. There are degrees and sometimes there is simply not option but to power on even if you feel dreadful. I've always been able to go to the loo or grab a drink with flu.

Hope you get better soon.

You may have tonsilitis (glands don't normally cause pain on swallowing for me - just pain on turning my head, it is the tonsils (inside the back of the throat) that cause swallowing pain). This sounds like my recent bout of tonsilitis. To be honest I felt REALLY ill and was in bed for 3 days and felt unwell for over a week after.

MyOtherUsernameisaPun · 05/06/2018 15:31

Aww, sounds miserable! You poor thing Flowers

definite possibility that it's flu but might also be tonsillitis. Get lots and lots of rest, drink lots, take paracetamol. You might be better by the weekend, it's very hard to say. Either way I hope you're on the mend very soon!

At this moment in time, I just can't see myself making a miraculous recovery between now and Friday.

This is definitely the worst I've felt in a good 5 years.

My partner and I are recovering from a 3 week bout of flu (he ended up in hospital with breathing difficulties and the doctor confirmed it was proper flu). It’s brutal and I’m still exhausted most of the time. It’s going round. Rest, plenty of fluids, and drugs to manage the symptoms are the only way to get through it. Rest even if you feel better.

Happyland8 · 05/06/2018 15:59

Oh no! Glad you're over the worst of it. This just feels so flu like! My legs are sore & my back. Along with everything else. I hope it's not flu because I know how long it can take to get back to normal but it just feels so like it.

I managed to stand up and get myself to the toilet, I noticed my tongue is white! Does anyone know why that could be?

I'm just back from the Doctors. It's strep throat and sinusitis. I'm on a 10 day course of penicillin.

Ah I wondered if it was sinusitis!

Lots of Vicks steam for your face. Lots.

Happyland8 · 06/06/2018 11:21

Thanks, I'll give the vicks a go.
