This man at the park

I was at the park with my 2 children the other day. They were waiting behind 2 other children and a man who I assume was their grandfather for a go on the zip slide. I noticed that my children were not having any goes, and the other children kept having turns. My daughter ran across to me and said that the man would not let them have a go even though they had asked. I assumed that she had the wrong end of the stick so went over and asked if they could take it in turns as that is what normally happens. The man said, quite unpleasantly "we were here first, we don't take turns in my book"! I was very surprised by his attitude and have never come across anyone like this at The park before! Not a good thing to teach his grandchildren to not share!

what a twat

Waggingmyginger · 05/06/2018 12:49

Annoying but unfortunately there are lots of selfish people out there. Being able to laugh them off isn't a bad skill.

choccybiscuit · 05/06/2018 12:49

Unbelievable idiot!

eurochick · 05/06/2018 12:51

I think I would have replied that he was not teaching his grandchildren a good lesson. Selfish twat.

flowerslemonade · 05/06/2018 12:51

He sounds vile, why on earth wouldn't he let your children share the swing/ zip slide (not sure what that is) with his. They could have made new friends. Althogh judging by his attitude the fact they didnt provavly is a good ting!

Lemontwist · 05/06/2018 12:52

Not a nice man and setting a horrible example to his grandkids.
We have one of the ziplines at our local park and the kids all just take turns, big ones often helping the little ones too.

ERipley · 05/06/2018 12:57

Really?! I find this very hard to believe to be honest.

conniecomrie · 05/06/2018 13:03

well i would have took him to the side and said clearly that this park is for all children big or small red or blue, n our kids now adays are tote to share at school and at home so why should his be any different. get a grip old man were living in 2018 move over n give ma kids there turn. I hate ppl like that

KurriKurri · 05/06/2018 13:11

I think I'd have told him that unless his book was the deeds of ownership for the park then he could shove it up himself and let my kids have a turn.
Miserable git.

JessicaJonesJacket · 05/06/2018 13:15

Actually I've seen that happen before at zip slides. People assume they have it for a little while - like playing on a swing. You don't just swing forwards and then come off. You play for 5 mins then give someone else a turn. Some people seem to view zip slides the same way. Rather than treating them like a slide where everyone takes a turn each iyswim.

Butterflykissess · 05/06/2018 13:18

Not hard to believe at all. This h appended at my local park with the exact same zip slide thing. A mum standing there making sure only her kids got a turn, so even though mine were lining up hers would come back around and stand infront of them.k

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 05/06/2018 13:20

It's not "his book" though is it.
The park and its equipment belongs to everyone. Paid for by their taxes.
The cheeky fucker. No wonder we have children running around feral with examples like him.

Hideandgo · 05/06/2018 13:23

Wow!

dueanotherchange · 05/06/2018 13:27

What did you say when he said that? I'd have said it did happen in my book and grabbed the rope and let my children on it (and then handed it back at the end of their go!)

horrible man.

DadDadDad · 05/06/2018 13:28

I'd give his book 1 star on Amazon. Shock

Sortofcool · 05/06/2018 13:31

Flipping heck. What a wonderful lesson he’s teaching his grandkids. That takes some beating! Did you manage to say anything. I think I’d have been too gobsmacked.

TheBogWitchIsBack · 05/06/2018 13:37

I've never heard of anyone doing this in a public park or anywhere!
We don't take turns in my book? I'd have laughed in his face..what a silly and unpleasant man.

UrsulaPandress · 05/06/2018 13:44

That would have given me the rage and I would have made bloody sure my child had a turn.

bigKiteFlying · 05/06/2018 13:54

I've only ever encounter problems like this twice in parks and we've been to a fair few parks all over the country over many years.

First time we left park went into place we'd intended going to anyway thinking we'd head back later but in end moving to next location to visit. Second we stepped in with bright smiles and physically being near our children and making sure they got a go but the loud foul language and vauge threats from family made it unpleasant so left about 10 minutes later.
