To think you just don't do this?

I live in a flat, I'm in the middle and there's one above me and one below. We all have balconies and the balcony has little holes at either end to help with drainage. Came home from work today to find that the upstairs neighbours had obviously cleaned there's but instead of doing a proper job they appear to have just swilled all the crap and filth, including a whole pile of cigarette butts onto my balcony AngryAngry and over my plants!
Surely most normal people would sweep before washing down?! I now have to sweep up all the rubbish (including a big slug) and then wash down my balcony as I don't want to wash them all down to the grass below. It's my cat's outside space and he can't go out there now until it's a least a bit drier! (He doesn't like wet)
I guess my AIBU is that surely you just don't do this?! I want to go and say something but I live on my own and I'm worried they will do worse. I've attached a slightly rubbish picture!

To think you just don't do this?

Probably should add, the water on its own I can deal with, it was all the rubbish that really pissed me off

I'd knock and let them know - do you know them at all? If not, a little note under the door just to let them know and you're 'sure they didn't realise'?!

BoomBoomsCousin · 04/06/2018 18:33

If they are on the top, they may not have quite realised that when it swills down it just all lands on your balcony, rather than going into proper drainage or at least all the way down to the ground? Or they may be nasty neighbors who just don't care. Either way, it sucks. Hopefully, they are slovenly enough to not do it often.

Mxyzptlk · 04/06/2018 18:37

I'm guessing that if they had fag ends lying about on their balcony, they are the slovenly don't-care type.

TheIsland · 04/06/2018 18:39

I would assume they didn’t realise it would happen, and would mention it to them when I saw them.

Pecano · 04/06/2018 18:40

It’s a good job you weren’t sitting out on you balcony at the time! Grin

Jonsnowsghost · 04/06/2018 18:41

I think they do realise as they did it last year with bleachy water when I was sitting out on the balcony (with said cat) and I loudly swore as it went on me! They haven't done it since then until now so I'm going with slovenly.
They used to flick the butts onto the grass below but someone complained to the management company and we all had a letter round saying to stop! That wasn't me that complained by the way.
They're pretty hostile so I haven't spoken to them much but a note might be a good idea.

(Didn't swear at them, swore because it shocked me!)

Grim! Reminds me of the time I was walking past a block of flats with balconies, and a large dog was taking a piss on one of the upper ones. It was cascading over the side like a waterfall and splashing on the other balconies on the way down.

So at least it wasn't dog pee OP!

Jonsnowsghost · 04/06/2018 18:51

Oh, well, once they looked after a large dog and let it wee on the balcony instead of walking it, so I've experienced that too!
Her mum lives on the ground floor of another block so she would know where the water goes.

You're vulnerable right under them, I wouldn't say anything that drew their attention :(
