To study English language at a level, when he only has a c grade. There are other factors as to why he has got s c grade.

Is he very keen? If there are other factors maybe he wants to do what he loves and realises these other factors affected his grade and not his ability. I did A level geography and hadn't done it for GCSE at all. Loved it

No this is ok - I studied english literature with a B grade. As long as he has the grade to get in he will be fine. When I was in college they were very supportive and always happy to give extra help

I'm with you, OP.
English Language is a real subject of passion. A C grade tells me your DS doesn't love it. Has he consistently gotten a C or is this a recent dip? Because if, historically, he's done really well and this is a blip, then of course I'd encourage him to continue.
But if the struggle is chronic and he can't get above a C, I'm just wondering why he'd wish to continue at A Level.
What are the other factors?

I did music A-level despite having just scraped a c, and despite it having nothing whatever to do with my university aspirations or career aims. Some of the things I was introduced to in that year have stayed with me, and now form a major part of my non-professional life.

He's had a lot of time off school due to illnesses so had found it hard to revise. He didn't start sixth form when he finished his GCSEs as he was too unwell.
