I would aim to lose 5 pounds, then 10, then 15. When I was on a roll and feeling good, I would think about my ultimate goal. At the same time I would aim to go to the gym/run/walk a lot.

Not what you are asking but more achievable.

Everyone is different so it is very hard to say. The upper range of a healthy BMI for your height is about 9 stone 11, so you would want to lose a little over 4 stone. But BMI is a blunt instrument and not totally accurate by any means, so it might not be absolutely right for you. I might aim for 3 stone lost as a starting goal and then re-evaluate when you reach it.

If you use BMI as a baseline then you should aim for 9 stone 11. BMI can be a bit off but I find it's good as a starter for 10, and then you can adjust based on the mirror/how you feel.

Good luck!

@MyOtherUsernameisaPun took the words right out of my mouth! Grin

Or 5% then 10%. Or aim to go into the overweight bmi category, then healthy weight. Short term goals. I might do this myself!

I was nearly 13 stone (5'8"). For medical reasons, I've had to make changes to what I eat, so not on a 'diet' as such. I've cut out most bread/carbs, snack type food etc. Eating lots more fruit/veg. Have lost a stone over the past 3 weeks without feeling starved. Breakfast biscuits for breakfast (I'm not normally a breakfast person), berry fruit & a couple of mini cheeses for lunch, fairly normal main meal at night (but more veg/less carbs or red meat), fruit for snacks. I'm not calorie counting, just eating a lot less processed foods and it's leading to steady weight loss. I wouldn't aim for a particular weight, just aim for slow and steady, making changes that are sustainable. I also cut out all drinks except water (and one cup of decaf coffee in the morning), had a 4 day headache at the start due to coming off caffeine/sugar (I think).

Also, Im interested what the weight loss is for`. I know that sounds silly. But motivation is important.

If its to look better, theres www.glamour.com/story/when-weight-loss-is-noticeable this. If its to feel better, start exercise so you notice more quickly. If its for your DC, plan to do something with them that`s strenuous in a few weeks. And so on.

I'm 5''2 and feel most comfortable around 8 and a half stone, any loss is a positive though!
