To think crows are gobby aggressive birds

There's all the lovely tweeting early birds and then the gobby crows drown the beautiful sound for a bit. Then when the crows bugger off the tweeting birds are audible again. Clearly unphased by the noisy birds.
Do crows just have shouty issues? Empty vessels make the most sound? Or are they just party animals?
I'm intrigued.

I have crows. I also have magpies. They're fucking huge (different to the ones you get in the UK).

HappenedForAReisling · 04/06/2018 05:28

We also have hawks. The crows will scare the hawks off when they have babies.

FindoGask · 04/06/2018 05:30

Hardly empty vessels. Crows are right clever clogses. They have theory of mind.

Eminado · 04/06/2018 05:32

Big bird, big voice! As an aside, crows are considered to be one of the smartest animals on earth, bar humans!

Monty27 · 05/06/2018 01:32

Yes they get roles in scary movies and everything. Obviously they are clever.
They are still aggressive gobby gits though.
Confused

Not keen tbhh

Noqont · 05/06/2018 01:34

Crows are extremely clever. And gobby.

OrraBoralis · 05/06/2018 01:41

Very, very gobby but extremely intelligent. There was a programme on TV about how they solve really complex problems and learn from them. Be afraid....be very afraid

Biffkipandchip · 05/06/2018 01:44

I think seagulls are gobbier and more thuggish tbf. I've witnessed a few stolen sandwiches and they are huge and not particularly scared of humans.

Monty27 · 05/06/2018 02:00

Oh I am OrraBoralis. Creepy gits. Hmm

I once ran over a crow and the sound it made was horrendous Sad

My DH was telling me the other day that crows are one of the most intelligent creatures on the planet. I'm really not sure how they measure the intelligence of animals, but if that's true I'm guessing whatever machine they use was broken that day Grin

There was an experiment that showed that crows could recognise people. They definitely recognise my cats, when they (cats) come out with me to walk the dog, the crows start calling to each other. Sometimes the cats make me carry them as they're so afriad of the crows, we get dive-bombed and harassed on a regular basis. My cats deserve it, they kill with impunity.

Monty27 · 05/06/2018 02:16

CherryChasingDotMuncher not that clever then. So busy gobbing off and being shouty they can't hear a car coming.
Tut tut. Grin
