To wonder why I've never been ID'd?

KingJohnumLovesPringles · 03/06/2018 08:53

Okay, not entirely true. I've been ID'd a few times, by the same person, same shop, sat next to her in school for 5 years and she knows who I am Grin hates my guts

Anyway, why has no one actually questioned me and asked for ID before?

Never. I buy alcohol regularly. Not usually for me, for DH.

But the odd WKD is often purchased, a known 'young person's' drink.

Am I really that haggard? I must be.

It sounds ridiculous but I've been to many shops, all over the country. Wales, South East, Essex, London, Liverpool.

Does it also go by persona sometimes?

If you haven't been asked to show I.d then no offence but you mustnt look young enough to need your I'd checked...you must look your age ...

They check I.d on people who look under 18 or who look young and they can't be sure if they are over 18 or not even if they actually are in their twenties or thirties...if you don't have I.d checked then it's because they don't need to check it,

FindoGask · 03/06/2018 09:00

I assume you look your age, which is no bad thing?

Canwejustrelaxnow · 03/06/2018 09:01

Omg. I was once buying alcohol at a supermarket self service till. A staff member came from behind and put her hand on my shoulder and said, sorry but I'm going to have to see some ID, you don't look old enough. At this point I turned round to look at her and she said, Oh Oh yes you do, I'm so sorry. We were both mortified!!!!

KingJohnumLovesPringles · 03/06/2018 09:01

I thought it was Challenge 25? So not if you look 18+, but 25+

Canwe That is absolute class Grin I laughed out loud

MsHomeSlice · 03/06/2018 09:06

I laughed like a drain when we went through a self service checkout with some bottles of something or other, the alarm went off and the supervisor came over, flashed her card at the machine, looked dh up and down and in a heartbeat hit the "clearly over 25" option and then off she flew.

It's a joke now for any age related question or description of anyone, we will say, dripping with sarcasm "CLEARLY over 25...."

KingJohnumLovesPringles · 03/06/2018 09:09

MsHome They always instantly press 'Clearly Over 25' when I make purchases at self checkout too Envy

I'm only 20!!

GummyGoddess · 03/06/2018 09:15

I have no idea, if it's attitude can you share that with me please? I stopped getting checked after about 19 until I had dc1 (at 30!). Now I get checked whenever I have one of the children with me. You would think having a baby with you would lessen the occurrence.

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 03/06/2018 09:18

It means staff think you look safely over 25, that’s all!

Witchend · 03/06/2018 09:20

I've never been ID'd. Even when I was 16yo buying alcohol. or 8yo buying cigarettes for my grandad but things were different.

If your schoolmate knows you're 20yo, then she's right to ask for ID because you're under 25.

When dh was nearing 30yo (and had two children) he answered the door to someone who asked "are your parents in?" I've never seen him get rid of a doorstep caller so quickly before. I laughed. Grin

AlonsoTigerHeart · 03/06/2018 09:22

After dinner with friends I went to a nightclub recently.
Mates were asked to pull out id but I wasn’t, i asked if i looked old and he said’ nah not old, but your wearing a cardi and a coat so your a grown up’

Betsy86 · 03/06/2018 09:22

It is think25 so if uou appear to look 25 or younger ID needs to be shown. People get soooooo offended to be asked and start mouthing off im 22 blah blah.... exactly my point you look under 25 then right lol.
I do cringe abit inside when i have to press the ‘visably over 25’ button on self scan though normally people will make a joke out of it though and be glad to be on there way.
I got asked for ID in asda before..... buying a childrens cutlery set because it had a knife in... i was abit Hmm but went along with it as i know how shit it is having to ask people for ID at work lol x

SandyY2K · 03/06/2018 09:25

You must look the challenge age to them. My Dsis is 40 and she gets asked for ID, but she's noticed it happens when she's not with the kids or when she's with her youngest DC.

Louellah · 03/06/2018 09:30

I'm 27 and still get IDd everywhere. It drives me mad. I have such a baby face I was even IDd to go to a 15 movie! I'm pregnant and people look at me like I'm a teenager (someone commented as I walked past that I was young to have kids!). I think I'm the only person I know who actually wants I be IDd for once!

Louellah · 03/06/2018 09:33

Not that there's anything wrong with having children as a teenager may I add, but it doesn't stop people from having their opinions!

PrincessHairyMclary · 03/06/2018 09:34

I'm 32 with an almost 10 year old and I still get IDd it's a nuisance especially if I've not got any on me.

AlbertaSimmons · 03/06/2018 09:36

I'm nearly 55. I was ID'd in Waitrose a couple of weeks ago buying a cutlery set. When I remarked to the supervisor that I was clearly of age she said that her "policy" was to ID everyone making a restricted purchase as that is "good practice " and you can't be too sure. Hmm I hate Waitrose.

PrincessHairyMclary · 03/06/2018 09:39

The individual staff member can get a hefty fine if they sell to someone under age so I understand the policy

BlondeB83 · 03/06/2018 09:42

Nothing wrong with it but you obviously look your age or a bit older.

MiddleClassProblem · 03/06/2018 09:42

Canwejustrelaxnow Grin I’m sorry! It’s like a sketch or scene from a sitcom.

snewname · 03/06/2018 09:42

They even Id you if you are buying lucozade now...

snewname · 03/06/2018 09:43

Seriously they do in tesco. For bloody lucozade.

BlondeB83 · 03/06/2018 09:43

I’m 34 and still get IDd occasionally but only when I look rough with no make up on!

Canwejustrelaxnow · 03/06/2018 09:50

MiddleClassProblem she may as well have screamed, "my eyes, my eyes" as my big old haggard witch face turned round to greet her.

MiddleClassProblem · 03/06/2018 09:52

Canwejustrelaxnow Don’t Look Now remake with Pimms

I’m sure you look lovely. maybe you just have wise eyes on a young face Grin
