Any experience with quetiapine?

I missed my dose last night and ended up spending all night clucking from one nightmare to the next. From terrorist attacks, natural disasters, terminal illnesses and end of the world scenarios.

At one point I woke up at 3am convinced I'd had a stroke and tried to dial 999 from my mobile. Thankfully didn't manage it. I'm terrified of going to sleep tonight. Last night was like one long horror film I couldn't escape from.

Any experience of this or am I going insane? I don't want to go to sleep tonight.

It is a horrible drug. I lasted three weeks as a dribbling, drooling mess. I really get the "feeling like you've had a stroke" thing. Slept for 14 hours + every night. Turns out I didn't even need it anyway! Sorry you're having a tough time x

I'm a zombie 24/7. Just about managing work 4 days a week and that's a struggle.

I was on a small dose for anxiety and found it gave me really vivid dreams - not necessarily nightmares but I felt they were so much more detailed than what I normally dreamt so I started wondering if I was confusing dreams with reality. Aside from that it really helped me.

Quetiapine can give you a pretty ghastly night from one missed dose. If you resume again tonight it shouldn't hopefully repeat itself.

Basing that on my own experience only though - the horrible night is limited to the missed dose, it doesn't continue once you resume. It's just because of the half life of the drug.

How long have you been on it? If you're not already and it's a higher dose, have you considered asking for the modified release version?

ReturnofSaturn · 02/06/2018 23:29

I take one every morning and two at night. ..the slow release ones. Don't get any side effects

VeddersSirens · 02/06/2018 23:35

Am on 50mg XL

DH doesn't understand and thinks I'm attention seeking but I feel
Like doing a runner. Not taken tonight's dose yet, I'm scared. Last night was the most awful night I've ever had. Basically I died about 5 times, every time I woke up from a nightmare I drifted back to sleep only to wake from another one. It was relentless all night.

I died in a gorey, graphic terrorist Attack, a stroke, end of the world, burglars and zombie/ghosts. I think I slept about 10 minutes all night.

Have you ever had a night like that when you remembered a dose? Or is the first time it happened when you missed a dose?

If the answers are no and yes respectively, then you can take reassurance you will be ok to take it tonight.

Not sure if they do MR for 50mg, but splitting it so it's half am, half pm could be an option to ease the grogginess.

(Your DH is being an arse.)

I had to stop taking it zero energy looked terrible felt terrible id come off it and ask for an alternative

VeddersSirens · 03/06/2018 00:05

I feel I look 10 years older than I actually am. Big baggy eyes, pale, tired loooking constantly

You haven't said how long you've been taking it, but the tiredness does ease up.

If you do decide you want to stop please don't just stop suddenly, it will be a massive shock to your system - as you saw when you missed your dose yesterday. Q has to be tapered off.

condepetie · 03/06/2018 00:10

Either take your dose or decide now to never take it again - nightmares are a common side effect made worse by coming off, you may have vivid dreams tonight if you take it or you may have vivid dreams tonight if you don't. It will settle down either way but if the drug itself is helping you, you need to take it and remember to take it every single day.

The bad night is withdrawal symptoms. Simple as. Either come off the drug or take it again, but you can't switch between the two. Good luck Flowers

ReturnofSaturn · 03/06/2018 11:03

You can get 50mg of the modified release ones. Im on these and take two at night

fantasmasgoria1 · 03/06/2018 11:42

I take them. If I miss a dose I feel nauseous if I miss two I vomit and feel really unwell. They make getting up difficult and I feel like a zombie in the morning! I take 300mg at night and I take other mental health medications in addition!

sometimesarecrazy · 03/06/2018 12:10

hi i took it for a while it made me crazy too - think vivid dreams and even worse were the non stop film credits rolling through my minds eye every time i shut my eyes.

i ended up doing a runner i was headed for fife in scotland but only made it to the next county before having some clarity.

the doctor changed it for risperidone which was much better.

but five years later after a lot of talking work i don't need any such crutch to get through
