To despise Snapchat filters

Well this really, a couple of years ago they were fun, but now I everytime I see a teen and now adults using them I find it so irritating for some reason. Aibu

YANBU. I put this on another thread but a I know a woman who used the dog filter on the first ever photo with her newborn son. I hate it too, it’s so weird. There’s a meme doing the rounds about grandparents in 50 years showing their DC pics from their youth and they have Snapchat filters on.

WonderTweek · 01/06/2018 19:35

Are these the ridiculous deer and dog ones that clutter places like Instagram? I’ve seen so many profiles full of selfies but each and every one of them have a weird bunny filter, or it looks like they have glasses on or flowers in their hair. I didn’t think it was ever particularly funny (but I am a grump) and it just seems like people are afraid to post photos without as the filters are never just bunny ears, but they flatter your features so it’s like subtle photoshop. It winds me up a tiny bit so I don’t think you’re BU.

Although I just really dislike everyone just posting pictures of their own faces all the time. There’s healthy self esteem (?) and then there’s attention seeking. Not for me thanks.

Stopthatalreadyok · 01/06/2018 19:35

Hate them so much!

Oysterbabe · 01/06/2018 19:35

Oh god me too. It probably means I'm a miserable old hag but I just cannot stand seeing grown adults posting stupid pics with animal ears.

MissCharleyP · 01/06/2018 19:38

They’re awful! Kids, I can just about understand but when it’s full-grown adults. FFS, why?

TheBogWitchIsBack · 01/06/2018 19:39

I don't hate them but I'm sick of seeing everyone with that stupid over sized glasses filter.
I'm over snapchat now in general.

Well i love taking a snap chat photo with the kids (age 9 and 6) - each to their own eh?

Naughty1205 · 01/06/2018 19:40

They are ridiculous for adults!

rosesandflowers · 01/06/2018 21:47

Don't mind them for adults or for children in terms of animal ears or whatnot. I can see the appeal - even if I couldn't, hardly my business!
I think lightening the skin, slimming down the noses, etc. is potentially very damaging. More of an issue than you not liking deer ears Hmm

AllMYSmellySocks · 01/06/2018 21:49

YANBU. I just find it confusing. I know adults in their 30's who had entire albums (like of a night out with friends) to Facebook with the filters added to all of them. I know I'm just being grumpy though.

AntiHop · 01/06/2018 21:50

You are definitely not being unreasonable. I just don't get the appeal.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 01/06/2018 21:54

YANBU.

HappyLollipop · 01/06/2018 21:58

I don't care when people take pictures of themselves with a snap filter on but I hate when people use them to take pictures with or of their kids, who the hell wants to look back on their baby pictures and see a dog or bunny filter on their face.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 01/06/2018 22:00

YANBU! I’m sick of them. I don’t know what any of my friends babies /toddlers actually look like these days because they’re always covered in these stupid things. Teens and kids using them I get but grown women look ridiculous.

GummyGoddess · 01/06/2018 22:00

I quite like them as I find putting them on my toddler amusing. However they are for my enjoyment, I never post them anywhere as I assume nobody else would be interested in seeing the 100th picture of DC1 with bunny ears on.

Haven't tried with newborn dc2 yet but probably will start including him in the next few weeks.

Shite

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 01/06/2018 22:41

I'm also irrationally irritated by it. Then again, social media as a whole irritates me, miserable old sow that I am Grin

KappaKappa · 01/06/2018 22:44

YANBU
They are tacky imo especially when used by adults.

TerfsUp · 01/06/2018 22:46

YANBU.

looksfamiliar · 01/06/2018 22:48

I loathe them, they make women look totally gormless.

Thehop · 01/06/2018 22:50

Proper dog crap they are.

How do women think we believe their “filter face” is real when we know they do the school run just as rough as us?!

Elainethepain · 01/06/2018 22:52

A lot of them really do make you look completely different- they slim your face down, widen your eyes, narrow your nose, whiten your teeth, tan your skin etc.... I just personally wouldn't feel that flattered by compliments on filtered selfies that don't actually represent what I look like

BlondeB83 · 01/06/2018 23:20

I hate them! I’m surprised anyone recognised each other in real life as they change their appearance so much!

BlondeB83 · 01/06/2018 23:20
