I got a new job & I am supposed to start Monday but they not sent me over the employment contract.

I am only to start my job once I been vetted & signed the contract, I have emailed & phoned the company saying that I not received it & they just said they are dealing with it & no further instructions.

What would you do?

I believe they have up to 3 months to produce the contract from the day you start, it doesn't have to be signed before you start.

topcat2014 · 01/06/2018 18:16

Have you had an offer letter?

We only prepare contracts once the employee has actually turned up on the first day.

Pibplob · 01/06/2018 18:23

Turn up and see what they say. If they send you home then they do but you have to turn up!

Livingsymbol · 01/06/2018 18:25

Topcat2014

No offer letter either.

Was just a discussion between me & the manager, the HR woman said that until I have the contract I can not start over ruling the manager.

Go in Monday, it forces them to deal with the issue

cc5601 · 01/06/2018 19:29

Just go in. Been at my job 12 weeks still have no contract

Kittykatmacbill · 01/06/2018 19:34

Just go in. My dh did at least a couple of years with no contract (nhs job).

topcat2014 · 01/06/2018 21:22

Is this a brand new job with a new employer? Cannot quite tell from your thread.

If so, did you give up a job to go to this new one, without a letter?

In any event, what is the worst that can happen if you do go in?

topcat2014 · 01/06/2018 21:23

Don't rely on anything stated by HR, in my experience bitter

Loandbeholdagain · 01/06/2018 21:24

Definitely go in, then you can discuss with the manager the issue who will probably chase up HR.

Livingsymbol · 02/06/2018 09:36

@Topcat

Working for free & not being paid, the woman was clear I cannot start until it all been signed off

BettyBaggins · 02/06/2018 09:40

And does your manager know that HR said that? What vetting do they need to do? DBS?

zoobaby · 02/06/2018 10:27

So if you don't go in... how would they likely react to that? Grin

Livingsymbol · 02/06/2018 11:32

Yes the manager was in the room & I have emailed him twice about the issue with no reply

OP posts:
Dancingtothebeat · 02/06/2018 11:36

Just go in. You will be entitled to pay regardless of the contract being signed. Presumably you have emails confirming the offer?

Livingsymbol · 03/06/2018 18:31

You I don’t know if I want the job

Was no interview process, I be president of the world by November & the company is going down the pan

Go in - but this sort of thing is why I don't hand in my notice until I've had a contract - if nothing else I want to know the T&Cs and check they're not ridiculous

Go in on Monday

Groovee · 03/06/2018 18:43

I would turn up. I started my job last Monday. It was agreed I would start then and the paperwork was done on the day.

Oddcat · 03/06/2018 18:45

It all sounds a bit iffy to me , I'd go in and see how the land lies , maybe look for something else if you have doubts.

Livingsymbol · 03/06/2018 19:24

@oddcat

Yeah it does seem iffy , I am tempted to not take it.

I won’t be starting until I have seen the contract.

So still no reply from anyone, yet other people I emailing about potential work are straight back to me.

Alarm bells are ringing with this company, if there this slack about my joining the company imagine how it be with wage problems etc.

OP posts:
Merryoldgoat · 04/06/2018 09:53

I seriously wouldn’t be working for them. The things you’re after are bit difficult to arrange.

Look for something else.

Livingsymbol · 05/06/2018 11:28

I went in there yesterday to see what was going on got everything sorted out contractually after being left waiting for 30minutes then I had had enough & went to search for the person in charge.

After I am taken down to a room where someone fills out a sheet says sign here I am now inducted!!

So after 5 hours of broken computers & other equipment required to do the work, the training team being a foreign worker who only been there 2 weeks and has no English & a old English man who refuses to train us then shouts at us when we ask a question. I decided I needed a break.

Oh my gosh wtf that opened up the gates of hell, not allowed to have a break must eat at your desk!

That was when I said thanks but no thanks

Groovee · 05/06/2018 12:43

That's awful!

ajandjjmum · 05/06/2018 12:54

What sort of job was it?
