Have just been thinking about this, as it’s approaching the holiday season. We all look forward to going away, often spend lots of money, and yet holidays can often be a big let down.
One of my worst was in Italy. I booked a villa in a beach location and it was really expensive, but was meant to be a treat. It was in a complex of holiday villas and looked good in the photos. When we go there it turned out the villa was right next to a very busy main road with only a high fence separating us from it. The traffic noise was so bad we could not sit outside and had to keep all doors and windows closed. There were also no nice beaches, shops or cafes nearby. I actually cried on the first day. We tried to make the most of it by doing lots of day trips to nicer places.
