About 2 years ago I paid just over £1000 to a national double glazing co for a set of French doors. The price was basically the same as all the local companies I contacted plus the national one had a 10yr guarantee. So I went with them.
About a year later, maybe less, I noticed one of the doors had dropped - basically there was a gap at top left. Contacted co. They sent someone out. All fixed. Great.
At the end of last year I noticed there was a draught coming in from bottom left of the door and the doors didn't seem to be fitting flush. The locks were also really stiff.
I contacted the co again. They sent someone else out.
This guy was unpleasant from the get go. As he walked in he said 'your front doors knackered you should get that replaced'. I said I didn't think it appropriate for him to comment. From then he got ruder. I showed him the French doors. After initially agreeing there was a draught, he then told me it wouldn't be fixed because I'd bent the door hinge.
I obviously said I hadn't. He went on to tell me that anything getting caught in the door as it was closing would bend the hinge. So a twig, doormat etc! And that deliberate damage to hinges weren't covered. Asked about the lock, that was my fault as didn't I realise I needed to keep it oiled?!
Argued the hinge issue back and forth, he refused to discuss it beyond telling me the damage had been done by me so I told him to leave. He had parked across my drive, blocking me in. After he left my house he sat in his van for nearly 20 mins glaring at my house.
I obviously made a complaint. 3 months and several chasers later I got a reply. No apology 're this guys behaviour. And as for the door, they are telling me it must have been damaged deliberately and that hinges don't just bend. I asked about the previous repair to the same door and was told that couldn't have caused it.
So I'm now left with a draughty door they refuse to fix. They have said if I pay 80£ they will send another engineer out 'but he'll probably say the same thing'.
I'm really cross about this. These doors cost a lot of money and are draughty and hard to open and close. AIBU to want it fixed and not to pay any fees?
