To be sick of dog hair!

I love my dog. She's a wonderful middle aged mongrel who will do anything for anyone and just loves to love people. We couldn't ask for a better dog.

Apart from the hair.

I'm not talking a few hairs here and there I'm talking she appears to blow her coat on a daily basis and it gets EVERYWHERE!! I'm absolutely sick of it and it's put me off ever taking on another dog once she passes. Besides obsessively hoovering multiple times a day (which terrifies her) and brushing her daily what else can we do?

Shave her?

Have you got a furminator? Much better than a normal brush for getting loose hair from the dog. I don't need to sweep on a daily basis now, had definitely made a big difference.

What sort of coat is it? One that should be handstripped? Lab type?

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 30/05/2018 10:23

I'm pretty sure she's got a combination coat. Some of it seems very husky like and some is very lab/collie like. She's short haired which makes it worse!!

We brushed ten carrier bags of hair off our husky a few weeks ago.
I feel your pain op.

My old boy (mongrel) had a GSD double coat, so his undercoat used to come out in handfuls all summer. Fluffy fur and enough to knit another dog, smeared all over the carpet, furniture, floating in the air. I used to pluck handfuls out whenever we went out for a walk and you could always tell where he'd been sleeping at night, by the big dog shaped patch of hair on the carpet.

I miss that old boy.

I have a golden retriever. I feel your pain. I’m constantly hoovering and picking hair out of my dinner.

Another golden retriever owner here. Second the furminator recommendation. I also have the shark animal hair vacuum which is pretty effective. Still end up with a golden carpet over my tiled/laminated downstairs about 30 minutes later though. It does frustrate me but he's a lovely (fluffy) boy.

Ours is the same. Every day I could re fur a bald dog with what comes off her Confused

We use a Zoomgroom but she still sheds. I've just bought a new stick Dyson to cope with it all.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 31/05/2018 15:24

My furminator arrived. I brushed the dog....removed a further 6 dogs from her and still she's malting!!! I think I'll have to just resolve myself to hoovering everything multiple times a day.
