Making phone calls

Whenever I have to make a phone call I immediately panic, I sweat and my heart races. I loterathave to write myself a scrip for what i want to say, and if I doesn’t go to plan I fall to pieces. Is anyone else like this, I can’t be the only weirdo surely Blush

I hate phone calls too! Maybe not quite to the same extent but I avoid as much as possible, don't think you are alone!!

ClangerTwanger · 29/05/2018 23:15

I’m exactly the same. I don’t know whether it’s because I grew up mostly texting? I absolutely despise talking on the phone. I also make mental scripts of what I’m going to say and if the conversation goes off my Pre-thought list, I get seriously flustered! You’re not alone! Phone anxiety weirdos together!

IlikemyTeahot · 29/05/2018 23:20

I'm the same...its a nightmare I find myself delaying really important calls

RavenLG · 29/05/2018 23:21

Exactly the same. When my desk phone rings I usually just stare at it until it stops thank got silent ringers

TarragonChicken · 29/05/2018 23:28

Used to really hate it, would procrastinate like mad. Had some awful calls where my mind went blank and i was just silent. Then I got a job and got over it as I had a job to do! Still put off making phone calls for personal stuff, but don't mind at all at work. Fake it till you make it!

ILoveMyDressingGown · 29/05/2018 23:33

Yes, kind of. If I get asked an unexpected question, no matter how simple it is, I panic and struggle to answer and then sound stupid:
Person on phone: What's your name please?
Me: Errrrrrrr...

Goingalonenow · 29/05/2018 23:36

I've always hated phonecalls. When I was a child someone called for DM and I wrote the number down incorrectly. She went mad and they've made me anxious ever since.

BrilliantDarling · 29/05/2018 23:54

I can't stand them either! I can't help but go over and over in my head what to say when they answer, in the end the words don't make sense to me and a mixture of words and sounds just come out my mouth when the other person answers. Grin

I have some phone calls I need to make today and I'm going over my script already, I plan out what I think they will say and how I will answer, so if they don't follow what I think they should say I get tongue tied. It's stupid because I used to answer phone calls for a living, but making calls I find so stressful. If I can get DH to do it instead I usually will. Grin

I do.
There’s someone at the moment trying to contact me by phone for help, who doesn’t want to write. I understand they hate text but phoning for something unpredictable is my barrier! I’m otherwise quite confident, though my poor hearing is another layer of stress

I'm the same. Face to face I'm fine but I hate calls. Even to take aways or making doctor appointments. I got a job in a call centre to see if it helped but it really didn't. I'm selling my car at the moment and I'm constantly on edge in case someone rings for information. I think in life, we rely so much on facial expressions and body language and It's quite alien when that's missing.
