Bedtime story fail

I am in a tent with three children. They have begged me for a bedtime story, land they wanted me to make one up.

So I did. It had a family sailing round the world and pirates and kidnap. The dc begged me to continue when I said that was enough for one day.

Then when I finished, ds2 said “you know what mummy, I don’t think that’d have got greater depth in Y6. Your characters didn’t have very vivid descriptions.”

AIBU in thinking the education system is sucking the joy out of everything? Or maybe I’m just not good at bedtime stories.

Ah but the answer to that is, “hmm do you think so DS? Tell you what, you do the story tomorrow and show me how it’s done...”

I'd be pretty impressed my DC had paid enough attention to understand what would get greater depth, and yeah DS2 can show you how its done tomorrow night.

I’d be delighted that DS is questioning your narrative skills, but that aside..........get into a hotel!!

My lot used to be allowed, as a "Very Special Treat" to listen to "Go the Fuck to Sleep" when we were camping And told to on no account tell Nanna. They were thrilled cos it was so naughty, they were positively angelic in case it was banned

Good for him! Bright kid. I think it's great that children question stories and challenge things rather than mutely listen.
