Primark sizing

Is it just me or is primark sizing terrible. I recently some some cheap bits in my normal size and they literally don’t go passed my bum.

I have put on a little weight but not that much. I’ve spent the weekend feeling a bit ugh about myself.

AIBU or are the sizings really bad

Primark sizing is terrible. My petite 18yr old dd can wear anything from a 4/6 to a 10/12 depending on what the item is. She is no where near a size 10 let alone a 12!

Mydogmylife · 29/05/2018 18:50

Totally agree ! Just been to primark to get the usual cheapie tops etc for holiday, and the variation in the sizes is a complete joke. Even the assistant who processed my return of pairs of shorts commented that the sizing was pretty random. Bought shorts 2 sizes up ( usual habit) huge round the bum but tourniquet tight on the legs! Another pair, same size would barely go over my thighs. Seriously, to paraphrase a popular saying " it's them not you" !!!

starsuniteonceagain · 29/05/2018 18:51

My 2 year old is in 4-5 t shirts lol.

Troels · 29/05/2018 18:52

Yeah I'm in a much bigger size in Primark too. I give up for myself, but Dd likes their harry potter stuff so we still go there.

blackteasplease · 29/05/2018 18:53

Generally the cheaper the shop, the bigger size (number wise) you need.

NotMyCircusMonkeys · 29/05/2018 18:54

Primark sizing is tiny! I'm a size 6/8 but their size 6 jeans and shorts are ridiculously small.

Lilyhatesjaz · 29/05/2018 18:55

You can pick up 2 identical t-shirts in the same size and when you try them on one fits and the other doesn't

AsAProfessionalFekko · 29/05/2018 18:55

You always need to get at least 2 sizes up - I'm an 8 in monsoon but need a size large in Primark pjs.

eggsandchips · 29/05/2018 19:00

Sizings out of the window in a lot of cheaper shops. Better to grab a handful of sizes I reckon and try them on.

AlisonCHaynes · 29/05/2018 19:00

yes, the randomness of primar k sizing: I've found size 8 trousers too big and size 14 tops too small,.

FuzzyCustard · 29/05/2018 19:01

Not as bad as Lidl whose sizes are tiny!

lapenguin · 29/05/2018 19:01

Always try before you buy there! And don't let the odd sizing get you down. You can go into two different shops and be two different sizes. It's just all in one shop with primark

KyloRenaissance · 29/05/2018 19:06

I bought DD (10) the Harry Potter PJ's, size S women's size as AFAIK they don't do them in children's sizes.

They fit her perfectly but I have slightly shortened the shoulder straps. I was expecting them to be massive Confused

They are gorgeous though and she hasn't wanted to take them off!

AlmostAJillSandwich · 29/05/2018 19:17

Tell me about it!
I live in primark cami tops, and there's just no consistency. I always buy size 18's (well, my dad has to buy them for me rn as i've been housebound by anxiety for a while now) but they vary so much, especially after you've had them a couple of months.
Some of them come down almost to my knees and are really, really baggy, they could pass as a dress. I think these were all bought the same year though, the material is thinner and i think they added lycra or something to them the season after. The print inside (love this instead of a label) on those was "one for every day cami" where as all my newer ones are "the stretch cami" but the only typ the actually sell. Others are skin tight i struggle to pull them down and they cling to me, badly, and the bottom rolls up slowly and has to be pulled down throughout the day. Others are looseish and comfortable, but are so short in the body they barely come to my bellybutton so i'm forever getting that gap of end of top, bit of skin, waistband of pants, which i HATE, i like a decent few inch overlap as i feel self conscious of my body, plus i have touching the waistband of any bottoms (OCD)

I also now live in their jogging bottoms since i no longer leave the house, and the sizing on then is silly too. Got 3 pairs that were perfect, so comfy, fit well, so sent dad back for more. Similar style but now thicker and with annoying pockets, but size and fit still good. Few more a few months ago, same size, but one pair there is NO room in at all, its literally breathe in to pull them up over my bum, and theres no actual need to tie the laces as theyre already super tight, uncomfortably so. The laces are barely long enough anyway that you can't tie a bow, only 1 loop. Second pair very similar, not quite as tight but with laces that undone come almost to my knees, just why?

Their bloody knickers! Some styles an xl (16-18) is way too big and like wearing a tent, but the L (14-16) barely pulls up high enough to cover my arse crack and digs in my lower hips barely covering the essentials. And the gussets seem to only be about an inch wide at the mid point, arguably where it needs to be widest. Whats THAT all about?

Most of their bras in the standard range also don't come in a back size higher than a 36, very rarely you find a 38, but no bigger than a C cup. So, all those super cute designs and highlighter colours are a no go, when you need a 40C (occasionally in a more stretchy band material can fit a 38D) which are all boring or ugly old woman type designs, and about 3 times the price.
Also the actual cup sizes related to band size are inconsistent, as the brand new bra i have on right now is a Primark, and its a 38E! What happened to D and DD?!

ForalltheSaints · 29/05/2018 19:21

Primark is terrible. A blot on this country's retailing.

Laiste · 29/05/2018 19:24

IM recent E the bottoms come up small and the tops come up big.

cliffdiver · 29/05/2018 19:24

I've found their sizes have got larger in recent years - vanity sizing!

I'm usually a size 6 but bought several pieces in Primark recently that were a 4 - there's no way I'd be a size 4 in any other shops.

Etymology23 · 29/05/2018 19:26

Cheaper shop sizing is hilarious. I’m a 12. I have size 18-20 leggings (more like footless tights) from Lidl. I have a size 16 bikini from h and m. I just laugh and cut the labels out.

sadeyedladyofthelowlands63 · 29/05/2018 19:29

Primark sizing is completely random. I have clothes from there that vary from a 10 to an 18. They are all the same size as they all fit me!

Champagnetaste · 29/05/2018 19:38

Glad it’s not just me then. I really think there’s needs to be some sort of constituency with sizing, surely this could play a part in people’s anxiety about their weight

Branleuse · 29/05/2018 19:41

like in all high street shops, you have to pick up the item and judge whether it looks like it will fit or flatter you. Then you try it on.

The number on it is only a starting point
