To ask about Ramadan

Our lovely next door neighbours have just popped round to give us a plate of food to celebrate Ramadan. I want to give them something in return when I give back their plate - can anyone advise what would be appropriate?

If anywhere near you does Asian sweets they are always a big hit. Give it to them after dark though, because they can’t eat until then.

I’m Muslim but I’m not Asian so Asian sweets are a bit too strong for my liking. I would suggest that you thank them and perhaps send them some chocolates or sweets on Eid instead but really there is no need. Eid is in about two weeks if that helps :)

Also cakes are normally okay. It’s best to go vegetarian to make sure that whatever you give is halal. If you live in an area with a big Muslim population going for something from a grocers which sells Pakistani/Afghani etc goods is a good idea because they will know from the label it is halal. Usually most shops of that type are really helpful with pointing you in the right direction and suggesting an appropriate gift. I’ve done that myself in the past and they’ve been really good suggesting the right thing.

Thank you all for helpful suggestions! There is a halal supermarket near my work, will pop in for a look Smile
