do you mean you know if its legal ? any advice appreciated

babygrand · 18/05/2007 23:21

I love computers but there are constant problems with them. Luckily my dh works in IT. Don't know how families without IT people survive!

2shoes · 18/05/2007 23:22

please ask him how i get my alt-ctrl-del back

OP posts:
babygrand · 18/05/2007 23:28

I would, but he's not in the country at the moment, sorry. Hope you find it soon!

mummylin2495 · 19/05/2007 23:05

just a thought 2shes ,was wondering if you did the same as i did (restore) that may do it ?

seamonstr · 19/05/2007 23:32

Popups are 99% of the time caused by visiting dodgy websites that take advantage of vulnerabilities in the browser - have you got somebody who's been browsing for
a) porn
b) dodgy music (sites publishing torrents, etc)
c) Hacked/cracked/serial software?

The ctrl-alt-del not working is more worrying. If hitting those three keys together doesn't bring up the either the "shut down/task manager/change password" dialogue or the task manager then something quite serious has gone wrong, possibly something like a kernel-level virus. Don't use your PC for online banking or anything that requires typing in your credit card number/passwords/other confidential stuff until you've had it checked out.

2shoes · 19/05/2007 23:41

thanks have avoided doing anything like that.

2shoes · 20/05/2007 10:02

if i have got a kernal thing how do you get rid of it. i have restored/scanned

OP posts:
2shoes · 20/05/2007 12:11

think i have managed to get rid of virus. sounds funny but am wondering if it is the keyboard so am going to get anew one

If you right click on the taskbar, do you get Task Manager as one of the options?

2shoes · 20/05/2007 12:20

yes

OP posts:
RustyBear · 20/05/2007 12:31

And does it come up OK if you click on it? If so it looks like the task manager file is OK - several viruses disable it.
Do the ctrl alt & delete keys work separately?

2shoes · 20/05/2007 12:36

no if i click on task manager nothing happens

OP posts:
RustyBear · 20/05/2007 13:09

Oh dear - looks like your task manager file is lost/disabled/corrupted. System restore may help, but if it's a virus that's done it it may have disabled that as well.

Think you need advice from someone who knows a bit more than me {sad]

mummylin2495 · 20/05/2007 21:30

2shoes if you do have a virus and you see the name of it appear on your screen you can go onto the symantic website and they have lots of "cures " to get rid of viruses. You could also try going on to the trend micro web site and they have an online virus checker called housecall .hope this may help.you can just type in housecall in your search box.

2shoes · 20/05/2007 21:44
