To just get the Primark diffusers

So, I love diffusers. But, I can’t afford £60+ for a lovely Jo Malone one. So I’ve just bought a couple of primark ones (£3 each for similar fragrances) . Has anyone tried both the jo Malone and Primark equivalent reed diffusers? Would you say the jo Malone ones were worth the price (10x price per ml of the Primark ones)?

I think the aldi ones are supposed to be good duplicates for Jo Malone?

ButDoYouAvocado · 25/05/2018 15:55

I eould go for NEXT. They are about £20 and last for months and months. The ALDI ones dry up very quickly.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 25/05/2018 15:57

I’ve just discovered the Primark ones & they are a pretty good imitation.
I wouldn’t bother with the Jo Malone ones again. I’ve also tried the perfume & again it’s pretty good! I’m going to go & grab some for my Jo Malone loving Mother!!
My favourite reed diffusers are from Lampe Berger & are about £17, but I’m happy to stick with the Primark ones & save the money.

Next and The White Company do great diffusers. I've bought cheap ones before but they never last long and never smell as good so it ends up being a false economy as I have to replace more often. Yankee Candles diffusers can be good too.

I bought my house six months ago and it had a White Company diffuser in the living room when we moved in. It's still got half left and smells divine.

Get the Aldi ones. I use Jo Malone candles and diffusers, and the Aldi ones are really good substitutes (i.e in between birthdays/Christmas/DH being a legend when I get given a stash of JM stuff :-) )

Mammalamb · 25/05/2018 16:03

I’ll maybe try the white company and next (and aldi too). Wasn’t sure if the Primark ones would be a false economy. On the jo Malone website the review of the diffusers is a bit of a mixed bag x

I bought the primark ones and found them useless, I can't smell them at all even in my tiny bathroom. No way would I spend £££ on jo Malone ones though. I got some in Debenhams a while back I think they were around 20 and they lasted a long time.

Flisspaps · 25/05/2018 16:05

I got a Primark Freesia one a couple of weeks ago for £1 in the sale, it's lovely!

Candlelight123 · 25/05/2018 16:07

Get the Aldi ones, £4 and lasts £8. There's no way I think the jo malone ones are worth the difference in price.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 25/05/2018 16:08

I have a next diffuser the larger size that has been going for well over a year. No idea how but the others seem to wear out and this one just doesn't.
Aldi JM knock offs are very good and Dunelm do good ones too.

SingingSands · 25/05/2018 16:10

TK Maxx are good for diffusers. I had a lovely Seasalt one that I put in our loo and it lasted ages, about 5 months!

HeyDolly · 25/05/2018 16:11

I think most reed diffusers are pretty shit tbh Grin I had 2 x Jo Malone reed diffusers when I lived in a relatively small house - one in the hallway and one in the living room and I couldn’t smell a thing unless my nose was actually in them (English Pear scent)

I’ve tried the Primark one (a black vanilla scent) and I could smell it for a few days and then nothing.

I’ve given up on them now.

mehhh · 25/05/2018 16:13

I use the Aldi ones because I love the smells but refuse to pay £60... they do dry up quickly though

PavlovaPrincess · 25/05/2018 16:18

Aldi are also now doing Diptyque rip off candles and Reed diffusers too. Only £3.99 so worth a go. I've found the Aldi JM stuff better than Primark ones.

pigmcpigface · 25/05/2018 16:19

I wish to register a protest against the Moulton Brown ones. They may take ages to dry up, but they lose their scent really quickly. I was given one for Christmas and it doesn't pong at all now. Angry

Aldi are better IMO!

Singlebutmarried · 25/05/2018 16:20

Aldi basil, mint and lime ones are lush. Mines lasted about 2 months and will be getting a couple more next time as well.

dontcallmelen · 25/05/2018 16:24

The more expensive primark diffusers are a lot better, I think they are about six pounds, I have one in the bathroom & has lasted ages.

MyNameIsNotSteven · 25/05/2018 16:25

I really like the Sainsbury's ones. The Fig Leaf & Elderflower is my fave.

Mammalamb · 25/05/2018 16:26

Dontcallme it’s those ones I bought. But they were half price yesterday in the local Primark!!

Also I buy separate reeds from Amazon so they continue to absorb the liquid.

stressedoutfred · 25/05/2018 16:30

I got one from Dunelm last week, it's taken it this long to start working but now it's nice. Quite subtle but that's what I wanted

MatildaTheCat · 25/05/2018 16:31

Top Tip

After arranging your reeds, tuck a small wedge of sponge into the bottle opening to prevent the fluid from evaporating. That and placing the bottle in a coolish place will ensure it lasts for ages and also help with loss of scent.

When I turn the reeds I also flick any residual oil onto the rug which adds to the fragrance in the room. I recommend St Ival, who also make excellent candles. You can also get refills so you don’t need to replace the whole kit when it’s (finally) all gone.

SleepingBooty · 25/05/2018 16:38

I got the Freesia & Pear Aldi one last week, it's gorgeous. I'm interested to see how long it lasts.

ksa103 · 25/05/2018 16:40

Full of chemicals which you're then inhaling. Much better to use good quality essential oil in a water diffuser.

Kamma89 · 25/05/2018 18:28

Primark are a waste of money, you can't smell anything. Tend to think jo malone/Molton Brown are great at first then die off quickly. Cowshed last forever but I've yet to find a scent I love to bits. True grace are brilliant and if looking for cheaper Sainsburys have a strong smell & last well. Diptique are glorious but I would never spend that on myself.
