To stop waiting and take DS out?

Teacher training day and I've offered to look after one of DS's friends for afternoon as his parents couldn't get childcare. He was due at 11.45.

No sign. No answer or communication from either of his parents - nearly 1pm.. DS who's been looking forward to this and has lots of toys out waiting is getting upset.

AIBU to text "Sorry but ds very disappointed you've not turned up so I'm taking him out to soft play to make up for it. Sorry X couldn't join us, see you after half term"

Or should I just wait a little longer and hide my impatience and DS's disappointment?

I would definitely text. How rude!

Marylou2 · 25/05/2018 12:58

Send the text. Go out now. Have a fabulous afternoon. Some people are so flakey.

BlingLoving · 25/05/2018 12:59

go out. They are extremely rude and inconsiderate. Not just to you but your DS. at that age, they're so desperate to see their friends.

SilverBirchTree · 25/05/2018 13:24

Go out, for sure.

But I think the wording of your text is a bit too much though. If they’ve had a death in the family or have some other reasonable excuse you might feel a bit bad about sending a stroppy text.

What about ‘hello, we were expecting you at 11 but no sign of you yet. DS is disappointed so I’m taking him to soft play. I hope everything is ok?’

Aprilmightbemynewname · 25/05/2018 13:25

No text, just let them show up late to an empty house.

ToadOfSadness · 25/05/2018 13:25

I wouldn't send anything as polite as that text. In fact I would just go out and turn the phone off.

AnnieAnoniMouser · 25/05/2018 13:28

Why not phone them?

Nikephorus · 25/05/2018 13:28

Go with Silver's text - takes the high road just in case.

I think this is better just in case there has been some kind of emergency. If you find out later there wasn't you can send a stroppy one then!

Have they turned up OP? X

Shumbai · 25/05/2018 21:05

What happened, OP?

21jumpstreet · 25/05/2018 21:19

Hope your DS enjoyed soft play, I cannot bear people letting children down. It takes less than a minute to send a text
