AIBU to ask for emergency passport help

Not an AIBU (although I've clearly been a complete twat) but has anyone ever managed to get an emergency passport for a child renewal and if so, how?? Just checking in for our flights on Sunday and realised DD1s passport has expired. Feel like I'm going to throw up, these flights cost a fortune and everyone is so excited to be going on holiday. I'm just devastated. Sad

Please please tell me you've managed in the past!! Thank you.

No, it's no longer possible to get a child's passport as an emergency.

CluedoAddict · 23/05/2018 21:31

I think it takes 5 days so even if you manage to get an appointment tomorrow somewhere there won't be enough time.

TheFallenMadonna · 23/05/2018 21:32

Unfortunately they don't do same day renewals for child passports. They say a week. Ours took three days. But it took a couple of days to get the appointment. I have forgotten to Dd's passport both times it needed to be renewed. It's a horrible thing when the realisation hits.

keely79 · 23/05/2018 21:32

Sorry, no. Happened to us last year. No way to get a child's passport renewed on same day or overnight basis.

However, we cancelled flights and got most of money back, then moved hotels and booked cheaper flights for later in the year, which meant we didn't lose money. Perhaps worth looking into?

Amanduh · 23/05/2018 21:33

You can’t get a same day child’s passport. Sorry. The one week child service often takes 4/5 days but in three days on a bank holiday weekend, no way

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 23/05/2018 21:33

We did it last year. We drove to Newport to have the appointment and sort it out, they posted it and it was delivered two days later, so whilst it's unlikely you'll get it, there's still a chance. Had our flights been later the same day we'd have made them.

They've not done same-day-turnaround for children for a long time, presumably because of the risk of abduction etc.

Thanks all, I thought as much but was hoping for a miracle! It's Ryanair so cant cancel can only move for a fortune. Just can't believe I didn't check earlier.

Isn't there some sort of online renewal service? A friend of mine posted on fb about taking the picture with his phone?
Check that out.
Are you in England?

ohshitohshit · 23/05/2018 21:53

Hi blue, that all seems for adults only - would be fine if it was DP or me...

Guess I will just have to ring tomorrow and see if I can beg for any mercy to get an appointment and wait for it to be posted. Now just got to sort out passport photos and getting them countersigned - oh and school at some point.

Fuck fuck fuckity fuck.

bluemascara, that’s only for adult passport renewals, 16+, when appearance has not dramatically changed. It’s very good / fast / easy though.

I got my son’s first passport in 1 day but that was for medical reasons. I had to go to the London office and had an appointment and a letter from Great Ormond Street.
You could try ringing them and be prepared to travel into central London.
