Today has been a bad day.
To start with I have woken up with a stinking cold - runny nose, constant sneezing and or coughing, sore throat and headache. All this after bragging to DH how I’m the only one that never gets ill in our family and I must have the best immune system going
Me and DC (2 under 2) were supposed to get a lift into town but friend pulled out last minute. Fine - we’ll get the bus I thought. Baby went in the sling toddler in the pram and off we went. Just before the bus came my toddler managed to topple the buggy over and smack his head on the pavement (he had grabbed a branch and pulled himself over). He had the biggest bump on his head, cuts, bruising and loads of blood. He seemed diorientated and sleepy so I was really worried - he’s never hurt himself badly before and I was really shaken to see him like that. So we got the bus and I called 111 to see if I should get him checked out or was overreacting. They couldn’t help me because I didn’t have a postcode (and the call handler was incredibly rude) so got off the bus in town and walked 40 mins to the hospital to a and e. He was fine - they cleaned him up and treated the wound and sent us on our way.
On the way back into town to get the bus home I realised his nappy needed changing. We were 20 min walk from anywhere so I actually had to change him outside (no one was about) in a secluded spot. Then we got to the bus station and I started feeding my baby - she was sick everywhere! Nightmare but I always bring a change of clothes for her with me. Searched for my nappy bag which had the clothes in and it turns out I’d left it in the secluded spot when changing my toddler. So no change of clothes and no wet wipes. Great. A woman in the queue saw my predicament and said haven’t you got anything to clean her loud tut and thrust some tissues in my direction. I said thank you and did the best I could cleaning her. Got on the bus and they had forgotten to change the number on it so everyone realised about 10 minutes in we were all on the wrong bus. Had to get off, go back into town and wait for the next bus (they come once every hour). Managed to get the next bus with baby now In the pram and toddler sat on the seat next to me. Baby cried the whole way (cue dirty looks from other passengers) and toddler fell asleep. When we got to my stop I couldn’t get him to wake up so had to struggle off the bus with the buggy while carrying my toddler - everyone watched but no one offered to help.
I am now home. None of my friends ever seem to have days like this - they’re all perfect super mums and I just couldn’t see this happening to them. I also felt incredibly judged by my fellow bus passengers today and really struggled to keep my shit together. So mumsnetters, Aibu to ask you to share your bad day stories with me to make me feel better?? Honestly need to feel a bit more normal. DH is getting the kids handed over as soon as he gets home tonight...
