Is anyone’s iPhone battery absolutely shite since the latest iOS update?

I’ve only owned this phone 8 months, I still have loads of time on my contract.
The update last week has absolutely killed my battery.
If I have my phone in my bag when I start work at 4pm, no background apps running, no phone calls or texts or me using it, by the time I get to it at 4pm it’s lost 30% battery.

When I’m using my phone for anything now it has to be permenantly attached to a charger.

And no way could I use the sat nav on it now, i’ll have to buy a charger for the car. It would just die before I got to the destination.

Fucking Apple.

It’s an iPhone 7, not the latest but a handset from brand new....

My phone is two years old so the battery life isn't especially brilliant, but I can't even do the latest update as it says that I need to be connected to the internet for it to happen - it is connected!

GrumpyBagFace · 22/05/2018 22:21

Yep. Absolute shite. I have a charger in my car, at work, and at home.

honeyishrunkthekid · 22/05/2018 22:23

Yesssssssss only noticed this week 🤦🏻‍♀️

cistersofterfy · 22/05/2018 22:24

Yep. I reported it to Apple and all they could suggest was a replacement battery (at my cost). It was immediately after I updated it. Drains really fast now.

Pippioddstocking · 22/05/2018 22:26

Yes , this happened to me too!

MrsPaddyGrant · 22/05/2018 22:27

Thanks for posting this - I just noticed yesterday that my phone is really quickly running down. Fully charged when I went out at 3.30pm -low battery warning by 10.30 -and I'd been to theatre so had barely used it!!

I checked my contract and got a year to go. Apple really are appalling at forcing you to get the newer versions as older ones become obsolete.

Randomuser789 · 22/05/2018 22:30

Apparently if you go to settings > battery > Battery Health (beta) you can see your maximum capacity. Someone I work with took his to apple and paid £25 for them to do something and his battery is back to new?! Worth looking in to especially while it’s under a years warranty might be free.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 22/05/2018 22:31

I had a terrible problem last year when an update made my phone drain very quickly - I could literally watch the battery percentage tick down and just reading a webpage took over 5% of the battery. The fix was a new battery.

I upgraded back up to iOS 11 and the battery life isn’t as good as it was on 10 (it got downgraded from 11 as part of the diagnostic process) - I don’t use my phone a huge amount but I will generally need to do a top up charge during the day and carry a power lead or powerbank with me when I’m out.

Marmalady75 · 22/05/2018 22:41

Mine jumped from 49% to 8% in the time it took me to put my ds to bed and read him a couple of stories (it was sitting on the arm of the sofa while I was upstairs). It’s ridiculous!

FireFlyEden999 · 22/05/2018 22:50

Got upgrade from Samsung to Iphone last month, and tbh wish i stuck with my old phone as the battery is rubbish.

MilesHuntsWig · 22/05/2018 23:00

Yep it’s shit

RainySeptember · 22/05/2018 23:01

I did the update and my battery drained to zero over about half an hour, and then wouldn't charge when I plugged it in.

To cut a long story short, Apple tested it and said the logic board was knackered and couldn't be repaired - ended up buying a new phone.

I didn't think too much of it until two days later DP did the update and the exact same thing happened - battery drained, wouldn't charge, logic board knackered, new phone.

It seems odd, two phones in one family breaking in quite an unusual way after doing the update, but Apple say there haven't been any problems with the update.

Fuckingnamechanging · 22/05/2018 23:14

I thought it was just me! It's so much slower than it was tooAngry

Spase · 22/05/2018 23:15

I'm a real saddo, still have my iPhone 4S which I bought in December 2012, I have NEVER done an update on it! Shocking! The battery still lasts pretty much the same as it always has, only problem is there's quite a few apps now that I can't use or download! Ha!

WanderingTrolley1 · 22/05/2018 23:20

My battery has been shite since update, too.

stoneagemum · 22/05/2018 23:22

Be careful what update you allow, never allow a .0 update as they are always full of bugs and a .1 and .2 update will come out soon to 'fix' them

SecretStash · 23/05/2018 17:39

It’s bollocks isn’t it?

I just checked my ‘battery health’ and it’s 89%
What do I do next? @Randomuser789

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/05/2018 18:11

Mine is 85% of capability! I didn’t know you could check that.

SalsaLala · 23/05/2018 18:14

I put mine into battery saver mode, it lasts much longer.

gamerchick · 23/05/2018 18:18

Apple have already sorta admitted they do it deliberately to cripple phones. They were offering a discount in new batteries for only 25 quid as a sorry.

Greedy fuckers they are.

crumble9 · 23/05/2018 18:33

It was on watch dog recently, they discounted the price of the batteries after admitting they cause it. But, would only replace it if the phone was in perfect condition, some people were asked to pay hundreds to fix their speaker before Apple would touch the battery

SluttyButty · 23/05/2018 18:38

My iPad battery has gone to shite since the last update too.

gamerchick · 23/05/2018 18:42

That's right watchdog investigated and found apple would find other things wrong with the phone you would have to fix before letting you have the cheap price for a battery. So they got a dude in to see if the faults existed. They didn't.

I ditched Apple and got a Huawei. Now that's a bloody good phone so far.

blaaake · 23/05/2018 19:04

I've got a 7 plus for work and it's at 81% capability. Apple are greedy cunts. Regrets buying the iPhone X as soon as it came out
