To be annoyed at my neighbour?

I took a parcel in for a neighbour earlier today. I only know this neighbour by sight - no idea of her name and never spoken to her (we're relatively new to the area) but thought it'd be the neighbourly thing to do.

Around half an hour ago I'm upstairs changing my daughter's nappy after her sleep, and I hear a knock at the door. As I'm busy I ignore it... Then I hear my front door opening so I rush to the top of the stairs and it's the neighbour, who has picked up her parcel which I'd left by the front door and she was walking back out of the door with it. I called out to her and we exchanged pleasantries and she left.

However, I am left feeling a bit shocked and annoyed at her coming into my house uninvited, especially as we don't even know each other.

How far would she have come in if the parcel hadn't been by the front door? Why didn't she call out to see if anyone was home?

Is it just me or is this a bit out of order?

Extremely out of order. Would never consider letting myself into someone else's home! This is why I ALWAYS keep the front door locked even if I am in the house. I know she meant no harm but it's scary that anyone can just come in.

I suppose I'm a bit lax in that respect as we live in the countryside in a very low crime area.
I keep meaning to get a chain for the door and this is probably the prompt I needed!

Well I wouldn’t have done it.

I took a parcel in for a neighbour, they hadn't been there long and when they came over to get it instead of "thanks very much" it was "what did they leave it here for?" and away he went, I never have taken a parcel for them again. People are rude all the time, and clearly she has boundary issues. Just lock the door from now on when your up the stairs or in the garden.

the woman is deranged, who trespass into somebody's house even for your parcel!

You are BU to leave your door unlocked, low crime area do get targeted too for that very reason. It's even worst if you have a child in the house.
Some gangs just send kids to pick up handbags and anything lying around. If they get caught, what's going to happen to them? Nothing.

Your unlocked door doesn't give anyone the right to trespass, but still.

I know someone who moved from London to a more rural location, arrived home one afternoon to find a neighbour sitting in the kitchen having made a cup of tea.

Apparently that is normal there, neighbours wander in and wait for you to return.

I would lock the door though.

Lock your door at all times. My brother - who lives somewhere semi-rural - drove up his cul de sac and his then small DD wanted the toilet, so he rushed in with her, leaving his keys on the side in the hall.

A minute later, he saw his lovely Audi being driven away, never to be seen again...

April She (?) is gorgeous!

Aprilmightbemynewname · 22/05/2018 16:19

She is only lovely on our side of the door!!

RavenLG · 22/05/2018 16:29

April i love the "try it bitch' look (s)he has on her/his face. Beautiful doggo.

OP, your neighbour is weird and please lock your door, you never know what creepy bastards are about!

shiklah · 22/05/2018 16:43

That would annoy me too. When I moved to rural Yorkshire I was amazed at the way people would barely knock and walk straight in so I started locking the door! You should too

April, I've got one of those devices...

I have a similar device to you April. Ours is also cross German Shepherd. He has seen off someone who broke in at 3am. Conan shot down the stairs barking away & cornered him in the garden. Bloke tries climbing back over the fence but couldn’t as it was all icy and kept slipping back down.
Me and my daughter sleep very safely at night with him on the bed.
