How often to wash?

AIBU to think that adults should shower/bath daily - or most days, especially during the warm weather?
Just had a male visitor for five days who had one bath during the whole time. Bed linen smells of hot skin and unwashed hair. Should I drop hints?
When I was a kid we only had a bath once a week, but that was pre-central heating and running hot water (I am ancient).

Barring medical conditions that mean they can't (e.g, my son has eczema and can only bathe every other day or his skin cracks and bleeds) then yes, grown adults should wash every day in hot weather. My cousin washes once a week and sitting behind him in a hot car when he wears a sun vest is repulsive Sad

Yes, they probably need to wash daily in order to banish stale sweat, but whetehr that's bath, shower, or standing up at the sink is up to them.

rainbowdashflip · 22/05/2018 10:07

People are disgusting. They are also unaware. I worked with a woman at the weekend who had greasy hair and smelled of stale, unwashed person. I was totally amazed she could turn up to work, Friday night and again on Saturday, without having washed.

It's vile. I would have been giving them towels every night/morning and saying something along the lines of 'do you want to bath/shower now and I will get the kids sorted/have my bath after'

Well you don't have to bath or shower to have "a good wash all over", as my DM used to say. But in general YANBU. One needs to wash ones pits and bits daily.

Justwaitingforaline · 22/05/2018 10:16

I shower daily but only wash my hair once every 4 days.

jaseyraex · 22/05/2018 10:16

My auntie was over staying with my mum for a month and she showered and washed her hair twice the whole time she was here. She lives in Australia too, god knows how bad she smells in that heat! No medical conditions or anything either, she's just lazy. Other people's hygiene really grosses me out.

Confusicated · 22/05/2018 10:17

I always feels bit awkward using the bath or shower when staying over with people, no matter how welcoming they are.

Just saying

echt · 22/05/2018 10:22

I really want to know how you know what his bed linen smells like.

Rocinante1 · 22/05/2018 10:24

My boiler has broken so no hot water, but we live next door to my parent so we go over every second morning for showers and I'm hating it! I miss my morning shower every day!

Boiler is getting fixed as we speak so thank God for that!

LilMadAgain · 22/05/2018 11:02

echt stripping the bed to wash the sheets I would imagine.

veggiethrower · 22/05/2018 11:03

Does the bed linen smell so rank that you can smell it as soon as you go in the room?
Or did you actually have to hold it up to your nose to smell it?

Most bed linen smells of hot skin after a few days so just take it off (without smelling it too closely) and shove it in the washing machine.

Also no point in dropping hints to him now - he may wash more often at home and didn't want to use too much hot water at yours so that you wouldn't have to pay too much.

dogsdinnerlady · 22/05/2018 17:41

Stripping the bed linen of course!

I think people should bath, shower or at least have a full wash every day. Hair washing depends on the person. I shower every morning and wash my hair every other. I sometimes shower again in the evening. I could not face the day without my morning shower!

Heratnumber7 · 22/05/2018 18:23

I wash my hair once a week, but I'm fairly sedentary

Wellthisunexpected · 22/05/2018 18:29

From a social point of view, yes, daily washing is preferred. However recent research suggests not washing that frequently is healthier.

shelentei · 22/05/2018 18:37

My doctor told me it's healthier for skin to wash every other day. I had eczema and was showering everyday and they said it was irritating it.

veggiethrower · 22/05/2018 18:44

dogsdinner ... well, if you could smell it just stripping the bed linen it must have been pretty horrendous. I was a cleaner for guest apartments for a while and I never smelt any unpleasant bed linen.
You have my sympathies.

strawberry1122 · 22/05/2018 18:51

No excuse not to shower daily in my book.

YoYotheclown · 22/05/2018 18:54

As long as you don’t smell. It doesn’t matter your washing habits. Everyone is different. Dd has eczema and was told NOT to bath everyday.

LemonysSnicket · 22/05/2018 19:39

I bath every 3-4 days. Sometimes less because of my eczema. It will crack, bleed, split, weep.
I do take a flannel to the necessary parts daily but I think people don't understand that not everyone has lovely normal, working skin that can take a hammering.
