To ask what this is on my son's foot

So on Sunday my son was playing in the garden and his foot suddenly hurt. It initially looked a bit like a splinter but over 24 hours has gone like this. It's very very painful. Took him to see the nurse who insisted it is a verucca. I know 100% it's not. I have 5 kids and have seen far too many in my time Grin. Also, there was nothing there and now it's like this.

Going back to see a nurse practitioner tomorrow (not the nurse we saw today) as it is so painful for him to put weight on it.

Any ideas?

I suspect it is a splinter that's travelled under the skin and isn't visible now. It looks like it's infected and probably needs opened up and explored to remove the foreign body.

Podiatrist here. It looks like there is a foreign body and localised pus around it. I think you need a podiatrist to use a scalpel in order to debridement the top and remove the object. Some inflammation is present, Mark with a pen so you can see if it is tracking further from the lesion.

Something like a rose thorn travelled under the skin

It might work it's way out but best to get it seen again

Have you a minor injuries dept nearby ? I would go there

rainbowdashflip · 21/05/2018 19:53

Get some magnesium sulphate and a decent dressing on that to draw whatever it is out.

AnnaMagnani · 21/05/2018 19:59

Agree with everyone else. It's a collection of pus, possibly around a splinter/thorn with some redness and swelling around it.

The bit with pus will need draining and looking at to see if there is something from the garden in there underneath.

I would draw around the red bit now with a pen. If you have minor injuries go there now, or nurse practitioner should be ideal.

My DM would have been unable to resist stabbing it with a hot needle

iwanttoberich · 21/05/2018 20:11

Thanks everyone, I'll get him seen to ASAP.

I would LOVE to get at it with a needle, but it's too painful and he will probably kick me in the face Grin

My DDad would’ve got a needle to that!!

Well my daughter had something similar, and I didn't believe it was a verruca and it actually was. It didn't have the typical black specks. It literally looked like your sons foot.

I hope you find out what it is anyway, my DD also struggled to walk on it.
