To hate when drivers do this

I seem to have this most days - going along at 60mph on a national speed limit road, when all of a sudden a car pulls out ahead. Within no time Ive caught up with them. They then start drive at 40mph, leading to cars crawling along behind them.

WHY do cars pull out when they can see cars are coming, and when they know they're going to drive much less than the speed limit? This is not an especially busy road - there will be chances for them to pull out without any traffic coming.

Were to approaching a village/something else that would necessitate showing down anyway?

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/05/2018 17:29

Annoys me too. If you pull out quickly and efficiently; great. But pulling out necessitating the car behind to slow down? Really annoying and potentially dangerous.

carol1234568 · 20/05/2018 17:29

Funny enough when we reach the village they continue at 40mph despite the limit going down to 30 Hmm

I did that recently- the automatic gearbox in my car suddenly decided not to change up so I was tootling along a LOT slower than I would have likedv and cringing at how annoying it must have been for the people behind me.

bimbobaggins · 20/05/2018 17:51

Yes I hate this too, particularly when there are no other cars behind me. If you are going to pull out in front of me unnecessarily at least get the boot down

blaaake · 20/05/2018 17:59

Hate this. I give them a good flash and a beep.

4GreenApples · 20/05/2018 18:02

This really annoys me.

I think that some people just don’t bother looking.

You must live in Lincolnshire. Angry Grin

cardibach · 20/05/2018 18:04

A car pulled out 8nfront of me in a 40 yesterday. I had to brake and pull out to avoid it. Then I tried to overtake as I was already stuck in the other carriageway. The idiot then accelerated so I had to go over the speed limit to get safely in the correct carriageway. I beeped and the driver flipped me the bird. When we left the 40 I pulled rapidly ahead as they were going quite slowly. I was —fucking raging— a bit irritated.

cardibach · 20/05/2018 18:04

Well why didn’t that strike out work?

NotAnotherUserName5 · 20/05/2018 18:10

Yanbu. I hate this too!

Usually there's no cars behind you for miles either.

QueenJane · 20/05/2018 18:11

So everyone should wait until the road is completely clear and there are no cars visible for a couple of miles? Because if you chose to drive at 40mph when others wanted to do 60, they’d catch up with you eventually.

Maybe the driver in front is back behind the wheel after an accident, lacking in confidence or just a bit anxious about speed.

Why do you need to drive at 60mph everywhere?

FluffyHippo · 20/05/2018 18:14

Personally, I'm fucking sick of sanctimonious twats who feel it's okay to gesture at me and flash their lights and toot their horns when I do something they don't personally like. Presumably, they're also the assholes who tailgate me when I'm driving at the speed limit...

DingDongDenny · 20/05/2018 18:17

Yes they should wait until the road is completely clear - maybe not by a couple of miles, but so that the other car doesn't have to slow down. It only adds a minut to their journey versus a lot longer to the other car

I hate cars limping on to the road and doing 40, it always makes me wonder if they possess either a brake or an accelerator

blaaake · 20/05/2018 18:17

Because it's the speed limit @QueenJane ?! ConfusedHmm

blaaake · 20/05/2018 18:18

@FluffyHippo if that was directed at me, you either didn't read my post or purposefully chose to misinterpret it.

FluffyHippo · 20/05/2018 18:21

blaaake, driving at the speed limit isn't mandatory - it's just a limit (the clue's in the name) that you can drive up to. Yup, sounds like a tailgater to me...

FluffyHippo · 20/05/2018 18:21

blaaake, if the cap fits...

AAAANDD the other thing that drivers like that seem to do is overtake a lorry at just a millisecond a mile faster than the lorry is going.....do they want to have a chat and a wave to the driver ?No sense of timing or traffic awareness ..grrrr

Psychobabble123 · 20/05/2018 18:23

Oh great, the "it's a limit not a target" brigade are here....😂

bimbobaggins · 20/05/2018 18:25

No of course not queen but would it really kill you to wait an extra few seconds until the car has passed you rather than pull out and driving slowly.

QueenJane · 20/05/2018 18:28

There are a lot of stressed and angry drivers on the roads it seems. I may drive at 40 mph on a national speed limit road for a variety of reasons, or I may drive at 60 mph. I certainly wouldn’t be bullied into driving faster than I wanted to for any reason.

lazyarse123 · 20/05/2018 18:29

I want a flashing sign on my roof that reads "National speed limit on this road is 60 TWAT" why do they do it?

Psychobabble123 · 20/05/2018 18:30

40mph on a nsl road is just ridiculous and potentially hazardous. If you are a nervous driver, get a bus.
