to ask about the game Sonic Hedgehog?

7 year old DS wants to play Sonic Hedgehog...I'm crap at all this stuff but it looks like he plays against anonymous players...which isn't the same as communicating online with other players, is it?

I think he's far too young to be doing any of the latter, but as long as it's completely contained and anonymous, the former feels like he's playing against the computer, almost?

All the Sonic the Hedgehog games I've come across are PEGI 3 or 7. What rating is the version you are on about?

I thought Sonic could just be played on the console without the need to go online? It's a fun game & pretty harmless ime.

Looking at the review for sonic forces on Amazon seems to be single player however could be reading a review of the wrong game.

If you have an Xbox you could try the original sonic games on the arcade. I have them and a nice blast from the past. Graphics are obviously rubbish but gameplay is awesome. Can even remember where some of the extra lives are hidden.

It’s a crap game but it’s suitable for kids.

This isn’t exactly complicated! Games have age ratings like movies. Google it

If it has an "online" mode, he may be able to play against other annonymous players.

Do you know how to set and check the privacy and friends settings on his device, and his messages?

And how to check any in game communication, (if it's possible to chat through the game).

I’ve got a pet peeve about kids and age rating for games. But I shouldn’t have been rude.

Paddy, Sonic is NOT a crap game! I used to love nicking my little brothers Sega Megadrive to play Sonic when he'd gone to bed (little brother is actually now 37!)

Greenlantern, Sonic is great fun, have only ever played it as a single player though (I have the app on my phone!)

The older sonic games were great. No disagreements there.

I don’t think I’ve enjoyed a sonic game since they went 3D. It’s just churned-out on-rails mush now.
