Buttonhole for funeral

My Mum has passed away and it is her funeral next week. She was passionate about the lilac blossom. As it is lilac season what would you think if the ladies wore a small sprig of white lilac in honour of her. We are all wearing traditional black outfits.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 17/05/2018 17:21

Love it. I had a Christmas decoration in my hair at dad's funeral (family joke).

footballcrazy11 · 17/05/2018 17:23

Thank you for your kind words wasnt sure people would think it was distasteful. I am watching mum's tree daily praying it doesn't go over by Tuesday

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I think the lilac is a lovely idea. My Mum's favourite flower was a poppy. When she died last year it was the wrong time for poppies so we had a poppy painted coffin and order of service.

I hope the tree doesn't go over and her funeral goes as well as possible Flowers

footballcrazy11 · 18/05/2018 08:19

thank you all xx

I think as the family you can decide what you wear and how you present your mum. Sorry for your loss. My dad's funeral is next Thursday he was only 55! I am wearing something bright and colourful and glamming myself up he always said I looked smart. I don't really care what anyone thinks of me he was my dad, and its my way of dealing with it. Hugs xx

My mum had a willow casket with garlands of flowers thread through it, it looked lovely.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 18/05/2018 09:12

It's a beautiful idea. Maybe have a chat with a florist, our lilac trees are coming to the end around here, I don't know if someone has any tips on preserving the flowers a bit longer, or where to find some less advanced than others?

alwaysiero · 18/05/2018 09:20

I think it's a truly lovely idea and a beautiful way to honour your mum.

Tattybear16 · 18/05/2018 09:22

I think it’s a lovely idea, I’m sure there is a Terry Pratchett book, where the characters remember fallen friends by wearing Lilac. Our family all had red rose button holes and there were red roses on the casket at my DF funeral as my dad grew them for years and they were his favourite flower. Now every time I see them it brings back memories.

It would be special wearing it from the garden but If the lilac does go over, M&S currently have lilac in and so do some of the florists by me. Love the scent, so memory evoking.

Willow2017 · 18/05/2018 09:33

Sorry for your loss Flowers

It sounds a lovely idea, a special way to honour your mum.

I was at a burial yesterday, lilac was growing at the entrance to the graveyard scenting the air delicately

It brought back many beautiful memories for me, wear it and remember your mum with joy in your heart at the pleasure it gave her
