Withholding poop!

So this isn’t an aibu but posting here for traffic.

Could really do with some advice on this matter.

DS who is 2 1/2 had diarrhoea last week which caused him to get a sore bum. The diarrhoea has stopped now but he is now withholding his poo and won’t go to the toilet because of him having had a sore bum and the diarrhoea. Tmi sorry but it’s literally coming out a little then he stops it from coming out,I’ve just had to pull his legs back and get a load of wipes to help him get it out,I told him to push it out but he’s just too scared to now so have to help him like this.

Anyone got any advice or should I just phone gp in the morning to see what they say?

He may have to have a mild laxative for a few days until it sorts itself out

TooRight · 17/05/2018 16:14

I agree with the laxative idea. DD withheld her poo. Sometimes the only way to get it out was to make it too soft for her to hold in. After it was so soft she couldn't hold it in it'd come out without pain and then she wouldn't be scared anymore until her next episode of constipation and it'd start again

Gp to prescribe poo softener movicol. Also try giving him a straw to blow bubbles while on toilet as harder to hold back - plus making him laugh while on toilet.

Coldbrewsandamumbun · 17/05/2018 17:48

My 3 year old DD did this a few months ago. It was a fun few weeks! Confused

There’s an app in the Apple store called pop goes home to Pooland, it tells them a story. That and a morning dose of lactulose worked.

Coldbrewsandamumbun · 17/05/2018 17:49

Poo not pop.

lottienottie · 17/05/2018 17:51

Movicol would be a good idea, used that many times. Or do what I've done and sit there with him on the step stool, sing songs and make it a game. If he can splash the loudest ever in the loo he gets a treat. Soon sorts itself out.

Thank you everyone. We’ve literally had about 4 hours sleep over the last 2 nights because of this. Going to try all suggestions. He keeps saying sore bum which basically means that he needs to poo but he’s stopping it from coming out. I’ve just had him on the toilet blowing bubbles and playing games but still no joy!

Could you put a little Vaseline on his butt and say that’s magic cream to stop him being sore ?

Nogoodnickname · 17/05/2018 18:50

I’ve tried Canary but it still doesn’t work. His bum is still red and looks sore but that’s because I’ve been having to wipe little bits of poo from his bum about 10-15 times a day. I’m slathering the sudocrem on after every wipe but his bum is still red and sore. I did get some cream from the gp for his bum but that doesn’t seem to be doing anything really!

What worked for dd was a deep warm bath. Hey she pooped in the bath but by that time I didn't really care !

lottienottie · 17/05/2018 20:25

I really feel for both of you. Been through this now nearly 3 years and it's hard work. I hope it eases for him soon.
